Everyone had to bring a good bottle of Barolo or Barbaresco...
Gougères, gruyère mornay
Steak tartare & black truffle
Carpaccio de bresaola & Parmesan sablé
Bacon and gruyère tarte flambée
Wild mushroom strozzapreti
Kentish lamb cutlets & harissa, all the sides
Apple & quince rice pudding
I've had plenty of excellent young Bar/Bar, and plenty of disappointing older ones (just too many flawed bottles from pre-2010), but this evening was a great advert for the fully mature wines, with increasing age being so well correlated with increasing pleasure.
I'm still putting 2010s in the 'respect' rather than 'love' camp, but that could change.
2008 Apollonis (Michel Loriot) Champagne Monodie Meunier Vieilles Vignes 92 Points
France, Champagne
First time trying this producer. 100% Meunier (usually something I like), 5g/l dosage. Doughy and smoky nose. Crisp and grapefruity on the palate, which rolled off nicely towards a finish that featured a touch of cream. Blossomed with air, becoming increasingly moreish and Marmitey. Really nice.

NV Dhondt-Grellet Champagne Dans un Premier Temps Assemblage Extra Brut 91 Points
France, Champagne
2019 base, 3g/l dosage. Much fruitier than its flight-mate, and reminded me of sweet fizzy sherbert. Approachable and friendly, almost broad, and kept opening further with air. This is tasty, and good value.
