Introduction

Wanting a nice way to end the year with some friends and wine. We got together for a nice offline to celebrate the end of the year and also KSC02 B-Day.
Nice friends, good food and good wines.

  • 1990 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Brut Millésimé 94 Points

    France, Champagne

    Nice golden yellow. Very fine bubbles almost seemed flat. Nose of pain grillé, fresh rising bread and hay. Nice fine bubbles on the palate with a present but balanced acidity. Amongst the best champagnes I have had.

  • 1999 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto 97 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

    Very deep ruby red. Nose of leather. oak, vanilla, raspberries and ripe plums; notes of shoe polish developed after some time than blew off leaving an well integrated nose. A nice palate of fresh fruits and fine tannins that changed into a velvety even creamy texture that was very seductive. A superbly long finish. WOW.

    Deep ruby red with purple edge. Nose of blueberriy pie, oak vanilla, toast and ripe blackberries. Nice body and texture of dark ripe red fruits with soft tannins and nice balance, Medium finish.

    Medium ruby red, clear hue. Nose of red fruits with a nice balance and good finish. Solid QPR barolo.

  • 2001 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Deep ruby red with slight bricking on the edges. Nice funky nose; not unpleasant, notes of cheese, mushrooms and a mix of red fruits. Developing nice secondary aromas of leather and earth. Nice body and texture with the acidity blending well. Tannins are present but not aggressive. Developed a nice creamy texture after 1 hour in the glass with a nice long finish.

  • 2006 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin 93 Points

    Very deep ruby red with purple edge. Nice nose of earth, olives and tapenade. Nice texture with a palate if red fruits and olives on the retro. Acidity and Alcohol were present but not too overwhelming. In need of time but still pleasent. Medium to long finish

  • 2003 Brancaia Ilatraia 95 Points

    Very deep rube red. Nice nose of red fruits; cherries, raspberries, strawberries with oak and vanilla, also some notes of thyme. Nice smooth mouth feel with well integrated tannins. Very nice finish.
    Refreshing to have tried this one after the dud we had a few months back

  • 2003 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor 94 Points

    Ruby red. Nice nose of earth, rhubarb, raspberries, oak and toast. Nice body and texture with a huge amount of integrated tannins and a LONG finish.

  • 2004 Château du Cèdre Cahors Le Prestige 94 Points

    France, Southwest France, Cahors

    Deep ruby red. Nice and classic nos of Cahors; earth, oak, ripe plums, raspberries, vanilla and toast. With very tight tannins on a short to medium finish; this needs time but still enjoyable. The nose gave up more that on the palate.

    Very deep ruby red. Nose of plums, ripe blackberries, dark chocolate, currents, blueberries and oak. With a beautiful texture a body with loads of fruits on the palate and a nice long finish. Very nice !

    Nice deep ruby red. Nose of red fruits, pepper and spice. Nice texture and finish with good balance. Nice retro of fruits on the finish wit a medium to long finish.

  • 2003 The Standish Wine Company Shiraz The Standish 96 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Very deep ruby red. Nose of very ripe plums, ripe blackberries, red licorice, dark chocolate, currents, blueberries and oak. With a beautiful slightly sweet and creamy texture and body with loads of fruits on the retro and a nice long finish. Better than the Relic mostly for the body and texture difference.

  • 2005 Domaine des Baumard Coteaux du Layon Clos de Sainte Catherine 93 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Coteaux du Layon

    Light straw in color with a crystal clear hue. Nose of sweet red grapefruits apricots, fresh pineapples. With a sweet but not cloying texture with crisp acidic bite. A nice fresh finish with a nice long length. Nice way to end the evening.

Not a dud in the bunch, the food was excellent, the wines better and the company was the best.
