Bright, forward red fruit notes - strawberry and cherry cola. Still vibrant on the palate, with a mousse that hasn't quite toned down yet despite overall good balance. Very enjoyable.
Light golden color with some apparent mousse left. Caramel overtones and texture, and quite an impression of sweetness to the palate before turning a bit Madeira-like on the finish. A bit heavy. Probably never a great wine, but OK.
Super sulfury nose - all matchstick and smoke. Hard to get by these notes to see what's on the palate, but a buttery texture and some impression of honeyed fruits point to a mature wine. Not enjoyable in the place where it's at.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
A touch of sulfur on the nose. Still youthful in color. Good clarity with lemon curd notes and mineral. Great backbone to the palate. Good balance. Very good '99 clearly capable of aging.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Super nose with high pitched tobacco and eucalyptus notes; very classy. More wrapped up and harder to read on the palate. Seems to have a solid core of fruit lurking beneath lots of structure. Some Merlot plummyness and chocolate comes through. Young, but very promising.
Characteristic Mouton dark fruits and tobacco notes. Masculine styling. Giving on the nose, but still quite tannic, high pitched, and wrapped up on the palate, even with several hours decanting. Big Bordeaux. Still quite young, but very enjoyable.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Black strawberry and raspberry fruit nose with characteristic earthy undertones. Bigger than I remember on the palate, with forward, deep fruits and a density that's more than many '96s. Still some primary flavors, and tannins that need some time to resolve, but certainly drinking well now. Very enjoyable.
Streamlined, elegant nose with earth, tobacco, and red fruits. Medium bodied but great balance, with softened fine tannins. Classy styling. Really good.
Dark dense fruits. Classic Cabernet flavors of ripe cassis. Some graphite character. Medium grain tannins. Big, dense wine. Still youthful. Very enjoyable.
Drinking far younger than I remember this. Black, tarry palate with little real fruit character but some floral undertones. Find but abundant tannins. Big wine; masculine styling. Needs lots of time, but very impressive.
