Tasted Tuesday, April 25, 2006 by AllRed with 548 views
Jay McDonald of EIEIO was in town so the group decided a blind Pinot-themed event was in order. We were hosted by Isabella's in Geneva. The first two flights were tasted blind before dinner.
The2nd wine in this flight was actually a 2002 Guillemette et Xavier Besson Givry 1er Cru Les Grands Prétans , which was corked.
This flight was served nonblind with dinner.

2001 Sea Smoke Pinot Noir Botella 91 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Served blind. Darkest wine in the first flight. Initially very muted nose. Some good fruit on the palate. Incorrectly guessed Burgundy. <edit: my notes certainly don't sound like a 91 point wine, so I must have revisited this and found somethig I liked, without jotting it down. Scores were in place before the wines were revealed>

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Served blind. Initially muted, later revealing spice and a depth of fruit. Fine tannins and lots of fruit on the palate. Incorrectly guessed '99/'00 Oregon. This was one of my favorites on the night.
