30 bday session at Maison Dakota. Drank over 2 hours. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of soaring red florals, pure red cherries, red apples, fresh earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, bright high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet nicely ripe pure red cherries essence, red apples, licorice, fresh earth, light spice. Long finish. Very good quality. Lacy, feminine and pure. Very much in the mould of a Chambolle. Great mouth-feel. Drinking a very good place now. Can still develop but I like it now.

A winner for Father’s Day. Electric ruby red. Exuberant nose filled with cherry fruit and dried leaves. Full and fun. The palate is bright and happy with excellent follow through. Ripe, pure and extremely pleasing. A fun loving wine that has serious quality. Based on this and the de Montille from last weekend, I think the 2002 Volnay’s are in a very good place. (93)

Light ruby. Complex and maturing nose that shows ripe cherry, tarragon and earth. A fantastic wine. Has just hit peek maturity on the palate. Bright yet round and silky. Just caresses the palate. Good length. Terrific wine. (93)

Popped and poured. Nice viscosity, quite tart. The previous bottle was better with more air.

Decanted 4.5 hours. Slightly tart, medium body, long, full finish. Very enjoyable drink for the price and drinking well now.
