Introduction

Dinner with the Whites, Nancy Collins, Bob and Teresa Burke, Cindy Johnson, and Jeff Melrose featured aged Lavuki and Dutch Gouda cheeses, duck liver pate with duck liver terrine, prosciutto, calabrese salami, and porchetta. A chanterell salad with bean and red pepper, followed by duck confit and roasted duck breast. Summed up nicely with an orange and caradmom flan. A wonderful dinner and great hosts. I was given free access to their ample cellar and did some damage as the following wines attest:

  • 2000 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

One of the best 2000 Cali Cabs around. Great prefumy nose of still ripe black cherry and black berry. Fruit still dominating this wine. Tasted of black berry, cassis and toasted oak. Still youthful. No visible sign of age. Tannins are smooth and ripe with no edge. Good length. Good wine

Classic wine. Mature nose of black berry, saddle leather, cassis, cigar box and toasted oak. Only slight bricking. Tasted mature and evolved, but right on target. Very nice mix of fruits, oak, leather, mocha and earthy herb notes. Very smooth and rounded. No harshness but mouthfilling cabernet with perfect balance. Very nice!
