It had to be done. This forum is always so slow and sleepy on Saturdays that what better way to liven it up than with some bubbly conversation.

And I pulled a very nice bottle to get things going:

NV B Deville Chavallier Brut Grand Cru

Come on, who's gonna play along?

This is a fantastic idea!
I'll start next week as Saturday is already past in this part of the world

I like the idea, especially the term "Sparkling Saturday". For us frugal ones, that opens the door. Not having a sparkling wine tonight, but recently purchased Gruet Blanc de Noirs for about $14.

The last sparkling we had was 2009 Domaine Carneros Brut. DH, who does not typically gravitate toward sparklers, gladly assisted me in draining the entire bottle one evening. Most decent.

Will plan to participate in the future -- already have a wine opened for tonight.

Cheers!

Great idea!
Your TN made me chuckle.

Huge nose of fresh baked croissant , spongecake, almond butter, old wooden hangar

That is a new one for me.

I like it! I'll happily participate -- starting on Sat.

This seems better (at least it alliterates better) than my "Champagne Thursday" proposal.

Alright, let's kick off the weekend!

Setting the bar relatively low so anyone can feel welcome to play:

2010 Gruet Winery Blanc de Blanc. With brekky as we prepare for the All Blacks v. Wallabies at 9am.

So, either post on your bubbles or the Rugby. Both are valid options today

It's morning here, and I don't like drinking before noon.

But on tap for tonight, I'm making

seared scallops in a grapefruit gastrique, fall squash ristotto, and NV Fabienne Prie Champ (okay, I'm not "making" the champ itself, but still...)

Sparkling Saturday, FTW!

Well, the Kiwis lived up to their reputation. A tough, high quality match but getting past the Haka is always a daunting task. My Aussie BIL could not be consoled with just New Mexico sparkling wine so we've moved on to Belgian ales. Tonight will be steak on the barby and an '07 Altamura. He'll be over it by then.

Dr C had a glass of Christophe Thorigny at Restaraunt 17. It was pretty good.

I didn't get fully functional until about 6pm. The nocturnal nature has kicked in. I to am drinking bubbly Guinness while keeping up to date with NCAA football.

However American Pharaoh's win at the Breeders cup is worth popping a bottle of bubbles for. KC crowd will have to wait a day or two to bust out the champagne.

Yesterday's sparkler - and my go-to daily drinker Champers: NV Pierre Moncuit Champagne Cuvée Hugues de Coulmet Blanc de Blancs Brut. Green apple, lemon curd, some floral notes, baked bread, 9 g/l dosage.

I'm also a fan of this NV from the Moncuit lineup: NV Pierre Moncuit Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Pierre Moncuit-Delos Blanc de Blancs Brut.

NV Graham Beck Bliss Demi Sec as the basis for Mimosas this morning... Funny how champagne just makes Sundays go better.

Aubry brut May 2014 disgorgement last night. A little sweeter than I expected and the flavor wasn't all that complex. Enjoyable, but for the money a little bit of a let down. I don't drink a lot of sparklers, should work on that.

I opened a 2007 Schramsburg cremant yesterday, it was interesting. We bought it on release and had not intended to age it but it got passed over in the cellar many times. It had turned a light golden color and taster more like an aged Reisling or Gewurtztraminer. There is about 15% Gewurtztraminer in it but that should not be enough to give it the flavor profile it has. It was enjoyable but I would not recommend trying this experiment again.

Saturday while putting up our Christmas tree and with dinner we consumed:

NV Robert Moncuit Champagne Brut Blanc de Blanc
2012 CT Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain

The champagne was okay - it was too cold to start but I thought tasted nice after an hour or so.
The CT cab was also nice, albeit maybe a bit early on this one. Good fruit, tannin, acidity to improve over another year.

How the heck did I miss this thread? Lots of sparklers need to opened at some point.

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me, Dawn. We popped a 2006 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut. Considered a pretty good domestic bubbly, but it really didn't strike me as all that. With a few more in the cellar, I hope some sleep will help out.

Had various fancier bubblies over the weekend, but Saturday drank a Segura Viudas Cava. Not the Brut though, the Extra Dry, first time I've ever seen it. Doesn't come across as a lot more dosage than the Brut at all, just a little richer, fuller with the same general drinkability and QPR as the Brut.

I lasted till Saturday when he and his older brother came back to get the last of the furniture and odds and ends.
I did get decidedly weepy but I don't want them to move back in!

My God - the house is so neat! And quiet!

2012 Zenith Vineyards Brut. It was a prequel to the Christmas Prime Rib dinner we had with my dad. Nice wine and good memories since we served it at the wedding.
