Corked and cooked are two totally different things. TCA is stable with temperature. If there are studies that show otherwise, I would love to see them. The reason that mature wines appear to be corked is that the dominant wine traits ( tannin, ripe fruit, etc…. ) recede and time allows the TCA to take over. It has little or nothing to do with storage temperature.

Corked bottles still instructive in terms of the "body" of the wine...esp if you're unfamiliar with the producer.
Taste it to get the "feel." Spit, rinse out the glass thoroughly and sally forth.

2013 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia

Opened this to have with Christmas lasagna. I had poured off a glass about an hour before dinner to check in on it, and on PnP there was plenty of fruit and earthy notes happening, but it seemed a touch off. 10 minutes before dinner, the TCA was unmistakable. While completely undrinkable, I used it to give a quick lesson to those who were interested about what a corked wine is and the characteristics. Then it went down the drain, and we had a nice cremant with dinner, instead.

you've heard the saying, right? Do you want to buy a good case of Italian wine? Buy two!

I should definitely have known better than to not bring a backup bottle. Rookie mistake!

2017 Camus Pere & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin. Could smell this as soon as the cork was pulled. Down the drain it went.

Weingut Rings 2021 Spätburgunder.

Upon opening, the smell and taste made me think more of smoke taint, but a few hours later it was definitely just severely corked.

Holy smokes! That's a lot of bottles from 38 years ago. Impressive! Favorites?

1990 Chateau Rayas CdP. What a total shame...

A friend used to have an annual tasting of the top 1989 and 1990 Chateauneufs and three years in a row the 1990 Rayas was corked (though one year a corked bottle was still one of the group's top three wines). We finally got a clean bottle the fourth year.

I just opened a bottle of Ice Wine. Honestly I didn't even know what an Ice Wine is, or how it's made . Grear dessert wine who loves sweet ones.

Owner didn’t think it was corked, but it definitely was. Glad he drank and enjoyed it

2009 Cayuse En Cerise Syrah. Ugh. Luckily I had brought a backup, a 2008 En Chamberlin which was singing.
