No, that would be the description for me this year.

Hence my supremely confident 50% accurate guess at this point... but knowing CTSS miscreants I solidly stand by my 100% assurance of my potential to be wrong and thus prepare for the inevitable verbal abuse.

While that is unarguably true, I was angling for the whole 'I will be completely obvious to the person for whom I am Santa this year' thing. Not one of my better years for obfuscation.

Too much subterfuge can be obvious.
Too little subterfuge can be oblivious.

Man I ve been good. Box right into the cellar. Didn't check label, didn't shake box. Been good little boy. Took the week off after reveal day though so I could really sleuth hard if need be. And I'm pretty sure my gift was sent and received.....I hope.

Usually the guesses on who is your secret Santa start with the reveal, but I am going out on a limb here and guessing that my shipment from Tucker GA was sent by somebody from Tucker GA.
Further that somebody is not a subterfugist and has Tucker GA on their CT profile has their hometown.

If you only knew the travails that forced me down that path. Plans. I had plans, I tell ya. Big plans. Then family intervened. Being the only 'go-to' person for a number of folks dealing with a lot of fugly stuff puts a right hamper on one's diabolical plans.

So, yeah. Busted like Benjamin Bunny. It's a fair cop.

As I am now outed and you have no one obsess over identifying, you have a new charge: Deduce the wines BEFORE looking in the box.

Unless your offsite guy hasn't already spilled the beans, that is.

Ouch. Still 5 days to Reveal Day and somebody is already outed.

Maybe.

After all, this could all be part of a ruse, and the stop in Tucker GA was only a proxy.

Not this time. Ordinarily I would prevaricate and keep the question alive until after the reveal. But this year I did not leave breadcrumbs, I placed aviation waypoint markers. Big freaking searchlights and flares. Not by design, mind you, but I done it nevertheless.

The personal shipping has a tendency to leave a trail. We did that one year and even with our coy shipping while we were out of town I think we were one of the first folks outed.

This year (hint recipient) the shipment came from a store. So you can't get us from that...

It appears our santa shipped from a winery so it appears we can't get him/her from that either... Hmmmm...

Mine little box came from a store, right here is NYC - Acker Merrill. As a rookie at this game - I am sure someone is trying to deceive me into thinking that this is from a fellow New Yorker - not gonna fall for it:-) That box is looking so lonely sitting in the wine fridge with all the other bottles. It keeps asking me if it can take it's jacket off and make itself at home. Patience, patience - I keep telling it.

As for my pre-open sleuthing.... A Sharpie had been employed to cover up the shipping address on my box. Fortunately (for me), a quick google of the tracking number revealed the city of origin as Seattle.

I am now one step closer to almost certainly having a 100% incorrect initial guess on reveal day.

The wine I sent came from a store as well. I was hoping to take something from my cellar but obstacles emerged and I decided it was going to be too obvious if I shipped it locally. Instead of something directly from my cellar, my recipient is getting something that resides in my cellar from a winery that I am a wine club member. I decided to forego the wine club discount and purchase through a store to avoid having the winery label on the box and take away the suspense when he opens it.

It looks like my Santa had a similar thought as the wine I received came from a local store that I know very well as they used to be my provider of off-site storage.

Ooooooo, then you might be able to bribe one of their employees to get the name of your SS.

I gave up trying to ship something from my cellar two years ago when FedEx refused to accept my bottle of olive oil because it was flammable. So as a hint, the bottle I shipped also came from an internet retailer that promised not to leave a trail.

My recipient will have to track me down another way.

My package has someones name and residential address on the from protion of the Fedex label. A quick search of CT reveals someone from that same state with the same last name and who is a participant in this SS Exchange. I cross referneced said persons cellar with that of CT Santa and got a direct hit. Confidence is high, I repeat, Confidence is high!

I told that to the box and it stopped scratching on the cellar door.

I just spent several hours consulting with the sharpest minds I could find to best approach the intense sleuthing required of identifying the sender of my haughty, teasing package.... let me introduce you to my team.

I'm in a high confidence situation as well. Wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to share that, but seems to be OK given the above chatter.

The Elf sent me a PM about the shipment to me, with the tracking number. Of course I looked it up to figure out the ETA, noting that signature was required. Important info, for sure. But there was a name: first initial and last name, as well as an origination point.

Someone on the SS list has a username with the same last name, but different first initial, but from basically the same city as the origin of my package.

Regarding cross-referencing wines in Santa's cellar, the suspect's cellar is not open - Darn! But - I can see their tasting notes and there is a direct hit for an '07 vintage wine in the cellar. So, I have a pretty good lead.

Fun to poke around and sleuth, either before or after reveal day, I suppose. I don't want to ruin anyone's fun, so wasn't planning to share all this until I read the posts from today. Also - in my defense, I didn't 'plan' to start snooping, but I couldn't help it when I saw a name on the tracking page.
