I vote old world versus new, though my selections will likely be about the same either way.

We are ever closer to a detailed Tampa Wine Spring Break III update.

To help us finalize the details - let us know if you're in as soon as possible. Still evaluating old world/new world or finesse/power. Let us know how you feel, right now old world/new world seems be winning.

For now:
Day 1 - Friday February 16
Dinner, 7:15 PM - dinner at Seasons 52. All-in @ $105/per person

Day 2 - Saturday February 17
Afternoon tasting Buoncristiani Wines with Matt Buoncristiani - wine supplied.
Venue to be finalized - either S Tampa or Westchase
Here is their story http://www.buonwine.com
Dinner 7:00 PM at Capital Grille. All-in @ $125/per person

Day 3 - Sunday February 18
Brunch venue to be finalized - either Westchase or S Tampa
Wine theme "Pour to Impress"
catering arrangements and therefore cost still to be finalized.

This year all dinners will be pre-paid to avoid any confusion from last minute cancellations which unfortunately happened last year and took a lot to undo. Mark Clancy mclancy10006 will add payment info to this post. Last day to cancel will be Friday 2/2 @ noon. Restaurant requirement

Count us in for all four events. We would certainly know by the end of January if we can’t make it.

We are likely in...still exploring details and schedule...It will be great to meet the Tampa crew! But first, I have a couple questions....

Is Westchase the golf club?

Expectations on brunch start time and finish time? (Approximate of course)

If anyone else is planning to hit Berns Thursday or Sunday night, it would also be good to know. This could impact flights and hotel... We stayed at the Epicurean last time in Tampa....very nice!

Thanks!

@ BornToRhone

Westchase is a master community with a golf course. Our home is less than a mile from the golf clubhouse.

Approximate starting time for brunch 11/11:30. Finish tine 3 PM at the latest.

We’ve been practicing.

We can’t make Friday, but are in for both Saturday events. Haven’t decided on Sunday yet, but probably not.

Thanks to the organizers, we are looking forward to it!

Looking forward!

I reserved a room at the Renaissance for the 17th. Unfortunately we are now out for both Friday and Sunday, but that still leaves 2 events on Saturday!

Hi all,

I will be back again this year, and this time the hubby will be joining me. Please count us in for Friday night dinner, Saturday night dinner and Sunday lunch. I think we will take advantage of the warm weather on Saturday to enjoy some time at the pool. Looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Really glad you're both joining us. Give the Saturday Buoncristiani tasting serious consideration, I think you'll enjoy their wines.

Thanks again the triumvirate for arranging and planning - we look forward to catching up!

Pour to impress picked as well. Just about there on the others as well.

So who’s going to declare first?

So....based on the other Poll thread, the selected theme is Old world - New world? Does that mean we should declare old world for Friday night and New world for Saturday night (or visa versa)? Sorry....it's my first Tampa rodeo.

Hi Guys,

Can you please clarify the # of bottles for each event - I got confused by post #20 - which referenced bringing 2 bottles to one dinner but maybe none to the other?? Perhaps I read this wrong.

Last year I think we did the following per couple attending:

2 bottles or a mag of the same wine to the old world dinner on Friday

2 bottles or a mag of the same wine to the new world dinner on Saturday

2 bottles for pour to impress - are we doing whites and reds again this year or just reds??

Thanks for providing clarification - trying to figure out whether I can pull or need to source. Fun things to contemplate while trapped indoors by these freezing NE temps.

For the dinners that is the plan! Triplets might actually be better, but I suspect that is too hard to make happen in reality.

For the Pour to impress it is more of an open question. My thought was this is a red only event, but if everyone who has signed up shows up we have a ton of bottles divided over a ton of people. I have a few ideas of what we can do about this like maybe an A/B group split out or battle of the magnums or something. Other ideas welcome!

I think we are good for all events, and possibly a bonus Bern's event.

Change of plans as of 1/13.

No decision made on anything but P2P.

Was going to declare *Saturday 2/17 New World at Cap Grille - Buoncristiani Core vintage to be determined, in honor of our guest Matt Buoncristiani. If anyone is interested here is their story https://tinyurl.com/4BrothersOfTheVine

Given others have expressed interest in bringing Buoncristiani, I’m moving in another direction to make it easier for visitors. New declaration coming soon.

Of course all my picks are subject to last minute audibles. Any requests?

And what night are you musing your mind over for a Bern's event, Dennis? We have our hotel (Renaissance) but only for Friday and Saturday at this point...(no flight yet but need to get them very very soon.

So Saturday night is definitely two bottles of new world? The ratio in my cellar is about 25:1 old world to new, but I have two dusty old bottles of Australian wine that might suit. I just have to transport them down to FL.

Well - I have decided and am now declaring my wine for New World Saturday dinner. I will be bringing:

--- 2x 750ml 2009 Favia Cerro Sur

Now on to decide Friday night's Old World wine selection....Woo Hoo!

I will talk with Her Ladyship and other bosses of lesser importance.

'Bout time we meet, though!

Here is some additional information to help everyone with their wine selections…

Courtesy of MC2 WINES these are incredibly detailed notes from the previous events that include the wines from each event and winners from Pour to Impress. It is a great read as well. For first-timers you'll get a good idea of what to expect.

Spring Break 2 - February 2017

Thank you very much Chelsea/Mike for taking these notes and letting me post them

I told Larry I would try to come but not sure I will make it now. I'd want my wife to come and she doesn't have the vacation days. I can't really justify the expense being jobless at present.

On declaring wines. For me the Old World wine will be 1981 R. López de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia ( I have 3 bottle of this one so may bring all three so there is enough to get a reasonable pour). On the new World side I am less sure with maybe 2009 Bond Vecina or 2009 Hundred Acre Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan or something else. For Pour to Impress I ain't sayin nuttin to nobody...
