Fellow CTers,

First, please accept my apologies for inducing you to read this message by putting the word Sex in the subject line (to the extent you were induced by such a title). My true purpose in making this post is to ask a small favor of you -- for a good cause I should add. Here's the deal.

My ex-wife Colleen, with whom I am on very good terms, runs a restaurant in Cape Charles Va,, and there is some sort of local contest for best business -- or whatever. As a small favor to me, I ask you to go to the following website and vote for Kelly's Gingernut Pub : Cape Charles, VA

http://www.shoreaid.com/finalists.php

For those of you who are concerned about "stuffing the ballot box", please know that the present second place business (Gull Hummock Gourmet Market) is not open yet, nor has any work been done on the shell of the building -- not a brush of paint. It is obvious that they have a minion of evil-doers voting for them.

You can vote only once (they track IP addresses) but each vote counts. Moreover, as you will see by the total number of votes cast, 25-30 votes could swing the deal.

Thanks,

John

PS For those of you who are concerned that this post is a bit "off track", I apologize. I will note however, that Colleen has tried to bring some style and sensibility to an otherwise culturally barren area (my apologies to those residents of the Eastern Shore who think otherwise). This style and sensibility includes an appreciation for wine, as difficult as that can be to cultivate given Virginia's anachronistic regulations. Think of this as a call to arms for "Truth, Justice, and the Vino Way" (to borrow a phrase).

So is this a contest to see who can do a better job of stuffing the ballot box?  I'm confused to say the least.

edit:  I went to the website and now I understand a bit more.  It's not which business you think is best, it's which business is more deserving.

I voted for Kelly's Pub.  I mean, this is a site about alcohol consumption, so voting for the "pub" just makes sense.

Got my vote. Let me know how it comes out. Right now you are up. I will vote again if I change locations during the weekend.

Blue,

Thanks for the vote. Actually, it has (unfortunately) become a contest about stuffing the ballot box. As I said in the initial post, the "other (evil )" business is not even open yet, so how can people vote for it as a successful business?

Cheers,

John

Niklas

Now that W and Dick are gone, the US is more open to foreign visitors --even electronic ones -- apologies to fingers if I crossed the "no politics" line, which I think is a good one to draw here.

John,

I just cast my vote for your ex.  She has my vote solely on the grounds that you two have managed to maintain a post-nup friendship.  I can't say the same about my ex-wife.  But the good news is that I have spent 15 glorious years absolutely devoid of any contact with the she-devil.

This is just like the Eurovision (World's worst singing competition for those who don't know) Song Contest.
If the Latvians and Ukranians don't vote for Russia, keep your heads down.
There's a Balkan block as well, so hopefully no Archduke's will get hurt in the making of the show.

The Results from the ME = 2 points for Colleen.
She doesn't sing for Eire does she - they win a lot of the time.

I thought it was pretty good - I normally hate all the songs:

Although maybe it was the classy video (which doesn't get seen at the show).

Just posted a bulletin on Myspace asking for 3000 of my "best friends"  to vote for you.  Should get some out of that.

Dear All,

Great fun -- the Ex and I truly appreciate your support and the enlisting of friends to do likewise!

Right now (just past 3:00 Eastern US time, the Good Guys are up by a few (11) votes, although last night's lead (which was substantial at one point) disappeared this morning.

I will post the final tally when it is available.

You can always go to a different computer and vote again

Cheers,

John

Interesting that the votes keep coming as if the other party is doing the same thing, or is it a mirror vote,, seems unlikely to see saw back and forth like that.

Paul,

Interesting that you should observe the same trend I have/did. Imagine those dastardly cheaters resorting to such tactics.

What's the world coming to?
