It has become a traditions for six of us to gather on Wednesday for pregame, and dinner at FIG. One of the participants has labeled it, "Junk Night."

James Beard Award winner Chef Stanhope recently left FIG to start his own venture so James Beard Award winner Chef Lata had to step in...

Red Drum Gastropub in Mt P. Chef Ben killed it, and the service was fabulous. The fact that we were sharing all the wines probably didn’t hurt.

MAG

BLIND

Roulot Perrières is my fave white wine on the planet (which I stated about 100 times last night)

The first bottle of 05 was slightly corked (thank goodness for 2x bottles)

Ethereal. For some women it’s diamonds or chocolate; for HRH it’s Chambolle

The “Baby Jesus” was also 1976

One Yquem is never enough…

Apparently not enough coffee yet for the formal reports. The informal report is a megaton worth of good wine. So much in fact a few great bottles survived unopened.

The Krug lost its bubbles for the most part with the slightest effervescence on the tongue and a slight crackle to the ear. The lack of that made me enjoy it more. That was the opener. As to the closer battle Y'quem for me the 1986 crushed the 1961.

Oh and there were 4 whites and half a dozen red burgs in between the bookends.

Details to follow I am sure.

Mark

Sunday Brunch—Flannery Kali Burgers, with HRH’s lovely buns, and Old School Calif. at the harborside house of Mason_H.

We needed a side dish to go with the burgers, so…
1. I cut a hole in the box

Etc. and that’s the way you do it!

No food porn pics—I was afraid someone would push me down if I got in the way. But I did get wine porn shots.

^incredible^

Final Offlineorama (at least using this format)

Thanks to S1 for a great weekend, again. This group is really fun and so sharing.

While impossible to pick a wine of the weekend, I will put forth a wine that I wish we had more of and I want to find to drink tomorrow:

The 1985 Cristal was more than just "Champagne". It was spectacular wine that when left to warm up became a glass full of candied passion fruit with white flowers. It took me 20 minutes to finish the last two sips.

In that embarrassment of riches the Benevolent Neglect and Six Cloves seem out of place but I appreciate seeing them. Both major up and comers in the local landscape. Just an incredible display of opulence.

It was another 4 days of wonderful memories, amazing wines, epic food...it's something I think each of us save up for each year to really let go and celebrate life, friendship, & wines. And an inside joke or two...

Sincerely,
F/A Steve

After a few days to rest (the liver) and recover, I have put together my scorecard.

80+ wines (most of them 2x bottles), counting pre-games and after parties.
2 corked
2 “off” (VA or oxidation)

Fave bubbly—95 Krug. I know some preferred the 85 Cristal; I just prefer great Krug to great Cristal
Fave white—The 07 Roulot Perrières (duh)
Fave Red—69 BV
Fave Burg—97 Roumier Bonnes-Mares
Fave Yquem—70, then 83
Fave pairing—Chef Marc’s Burrata dish with the Nikolaihofs, (closely followed by his dessert pairing)
Fave thing I cooked—The Allium Bruschetta. I’m going to tweak that a bit. It needs crispy shallot, more infusion on the onion, and some acid.
The one bite of food I want RIGHT NOW—The Red Drum Donut with Dulce de Leche

We also had ringers/humdingers on Wednesday night, but since that wasn’t full group, I didn’t consider them for the list.

Thanks all for coming and sharing amazing stuff
