annerk -> CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION--NEW INFO IMPORTANT!!! (3/25/2014 2:59:36 PM)

Year Five! (Some of us have a nice vertical going on)

IMPORTANT NEW INFO IN POST # 40--PLEASE READ!!!

Some new faces on the boards, so here's how it works.

You buy in for a share. Each share gives you a case of wine. The 2014 price per case is $438 per case.

When the time comes for blending, we may use other blenders to round out the profile, but we can address that later. You are responsible for either picking up your wine at the winery in Napa or paying for shipping. The cabernet fruit will be Rutherford G3.

The wines come with a single label with all the legal mumble jumble and vineyard information. There is no "front label." You can upgrade some or all of your allocation to magnums for a small upcharge, this is done shortly before bottling, you don't need to decide now.

You pay 50% up front (due April 15th), 25% in the early fall, and final 25% payment in late February/early March 2015.

You are basically buying futures.

Splitting shares is allowed, however there needs to be one person who is the responsible party and any disputes are to be handled by the individuals--Dave and I do not get involved. (As with last year, Dave will be handling the payments as I'll be gone for a couple weeks next month.)

I think that pretty well explains it. let me know if you have questions. Respond on this thread if you are interested and I'll add you to the list.

I've split all the former shares up and assigned each person a single case. If you want more, please let me know.

Currently at 35 cases.

floydtp -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (3/25/2014 4:58:05 PM)

It is obviously too early to get a read on the vintage, but from a style perspective, it seems the CT wines to date have been very high alcohol. Do expect the future vintages to come in at 15-16% as in the past?

edbrockway -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (3/25/2014 6:47:55 PM)

I find this very interesting but would like some additional information. Where can I find tasting notes on previous vintages? Better yet, is anyone willing to share a bottle from a previous year? Would love to know what I would be getting into.

I was up in Napa over the weekend, and there's budbreak, especially prominent in Carneros.

Also this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2014/03/20/subtle-signs-emerging-of-a-super-el-nino/

It would mean, if true, more rain for CA later this year.

smigdiggler -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (3/26/2014 11:35:47 AM)

Great questions all. Let me try and answer a few of them for you.

09 vintage was 14.5% ABV
The 09 vintage was our first and we got off with a bang with fruit from Howell Mtn (Black Sears Vyrf) & Coombsville (Gerlach Ranch Vyrd). There are 38 tasting notes on the three wines with an average score of 89+ 2009 + CT + Project

10 vintage was 15.9% ABV
The 10 vintage was very trying for us for several reasons, the growing season was not ideal and we lost the Coombsville fruit. The 10 vintage stayed with Howell Mtn (Black Sears) and we added Rutherford (Beckstoffers GIII) During the bottling process there was something that got into the black sears bottling and it is giving off a bit of spritz when you open it. (We have since made good with every member of the 2010 group) There are 9 tasting notes for the 2010. 2010+CT+Project

11 vintage is 14.4% ABV
11 vintage consisted of our last vintage with Howell Mtn (Black Sears) and our second vintage with Rutherford (GIII) We actually added a touch of Howell Mtn Petite Sirah to the blend, although it is not noted on the bottle. The wine is in bottle and we will start shipping in Mid April for those that can and we will wait till fall for those that choose to wait. There are no formal notes as the wine is not yet released, however a few of CT'rs have recently tasted just prior to bottling and had positive things to say about it.

Our goal is to keep the wines sub 14.5 and to add just a bit of a personal note to this, I would say of the wines released, the 2010 Rutherford and the 2009 Coombsville are my two favorite wines so far.

I hope this information helped. If you want the full details of the real time updates of the process you can find 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 CT Barrel project threads here in the forum.

I am excited that this is our 5th year and when we release the 2014's I cant wait to try a vertical retrospective at the release party.

Cheers,
-dave

GalvezGuy -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (3/26/2014 12:15:14 PM)

The 10 vintage of Black Sears was too high octane for me. The 10 Rutherford has been my favorite so far followed by the 09 Gerlach (Dave and I obviously have similar palates). That being said, I am in for 1/2 share.

mclancy10006 -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (3/26/2014 3:13:12 PM)

I am in for a share.

Probably doesn't need saying, but I'm in for a share, two if we're short getting a third barrel.
Where's the info on release party 2114?

The last part should read 'March 2015', yes?

march 2014 is it. Smig is really a time lord so we can get the wine before the grapes grow!

Yes, I was lazy and cut and pasted last years with a few edits. Obviously I missed one.

Been missing, sorry....

Can you add me in for another share please?

Thanks...

Hi Buddy!
Welcome back.

smigdiggler -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (4/15/2014 12:36:37 PM)

Just received the Beckstoffer contract and I am pleased to say that they didn't raise the price on us this year. I am surprised as I was told that the prices were going up. We need to get a few more folks on the list in order to meet the one barrel minimum. Looks like this might be looking like a single barrel year.

BTW - I just sent out an email to the 2011 members to let them know we will start shipping the 2011's so if you didn't receive the email, let me know.

Let me know if I can answer any additional questions for you.

-dave

Jack667 -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (4/16/2014 4:54:53 AM)

I'll split a share again this year with RadoDejarmer (Kevin)

Please add us to the list
Thanks
Jack

No, it's just that we don't know any better.

floydtp -> RE: CT BARREL PROJECT 2014 EDITION (4/18/2014 8:18:44 AM)

Anyone interested in trading a half share of this vintage for a half share of the 2012 CT/Rasa WA Syrah?

Edit: Looks like I will be doing a trade in the 2014 syrah project instead.
