I'm officially in The Moratorium for the foreseeable future because we just had the ceiling in a house we're rehabbing collapse after a water leak. Now to deal with the insurance company. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

What a PITA this whole process is and will be until everything is back to normal.

When we renovated our house in Ithaca, one day I walked over to see how it was coming. The foreman says "Mr Birman, great you came by. Tom fell through the stairs!" So we asked, is Tom ok? "Tom is fine, he didn't literally fall to the next floor, just the riser and the wood supporting it went. But we need to replace the back stairway, so that will be an extra $20k".

I couldn't believe it. On the positive side, at least Tom didn't break a leg or something. But I wander over and wham, $20k.

We just had a meeting with the adjuster and it'll only cost us the deductible of $2,500 to get everything back the way it was. I'd cry if it was $20k and that would extend my stay here indefinitely.

VHR 2021 is probably a wine I won't be able to resist -- but I doubt that they will ask $300. The most recent pricing was $250 (or is this so close to $300 that it is sort of splitting hairs?) The $300 pricing was for the held-back bottles with extended aging.

You were right, not $300 but rather $295 Shpping and tax included a 3 pack comes close to $330 a bottle. I really dont know if I should buy or not. For the time being I remain in the shadow.

Ok, I am coming out of the moratorium. Bought a few of that Solitude De Chevalier wine. It was either to buy now or wait till November

I've purchased almost 50% of my yearly "allocation" thus far so I need to calm down and just drink what I have. Sounds easy right?

My 100 day stay in The Moratorium has just come to an abrupt end. The longest I've ever gone without buying wine.

Just came across a 6 pack Muga Rioja Reserva Seleccion Especial Vertical (2004, 2005, 2006) release from the winery that I had to have.

Just for fun I went back to check and I'm down almost 4 cases since the beginning of December. I wish losing weight was this easy!

Oh well, time to restart the counter tomorrow.

Solid run! Well done!

Day 31 for me. Dunno how long this will last...

I checked in here 43 days ago. At that time, I promulgated the notion that Berserker Day purchases were no violation of policy or cause for eviction. But I can't squirm around the two Aglianicos that I bought today. It keeps intact a 10-yr vertical of this wine, but I doubt the management is going to let me slide based on that argument.
Back on the streets at day zero.

Don't feel too bad, you're in good company here....

I cracked and bought my 2 bottle allocation of Beta. More importantly, my purchases this year are 95% below last year. so mission accomplished pretty much!

You guys are doing great! My goal again this year is to be down 100 bottles by year end. So far this year I am down a grand total of 3 bottles and the longest I have gone without buying wine has been 14 days.
Its early yet but this does not bode well.

Don't forget Cellar Depletion Servicesā„¢ (a leisure service of AT&T).

Should have stopped by when we went through Nashville last week on our way back to KC from Tampa.

Just back from a Napa trip this weekend.

I'm most definitely starting over at day one today.

It's been fun while it lasted, but it's even more fun buying wine. LoL!!!

Today I brutally refused to purchase Arnot Roberts and 001 Vitners. The Moratorium is strong in me. For now.

I just broke my moratorium to buy my Ultramarine allocation (technically not a violation) and a bottle of Vin de Constance (which most definitely is a violation). And now I settle back in....

FIFY. I look forward to your offers when you realize you passed on a great new winery.

(ps - It's so fun ribbing you! And it's even more fun when you reply with a snappy retort. Luv ya brother!)

The Vinous review was a consideration, frankly. And Iā€™m getting too old to chase every new bottleā€¦

Today marks 40 days purchase-free.

Lat time I went a month without buying: May 2007

I guess the interventions are working ;)

Iā€™ve been in here 3 months now. Had temptation about a month ago, but less now. I have enough wine to last into my 80s, maybe 90s if I reduce consumption a bit. Might be time to make myself at home here. Feels weird and a little sad, but itā€™s the sensible thing to do.

Of course, being sensible with wine purchases has never been my long suitā€¦šŸ˜‰

I think it's been about a week for me....but then again I just had some car repairs and a new washing machine to occupy the credit card. Not as much fun....

I need to spend some quality time here.

My wine buying journey since the end of last year reminds me of an Ozempic junkie, losing 30 but gaining 60 back.
