2013 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe.

I brought this to a local restaurant. It was very good with food but would have benefitted from decanting.

Nobody has had a FFP since April 29th? I don't believe it. Slackers.

Saved from page 3? First post of June on June 30?

FFP was 2009 Batailley. Drinking beautifully!

My FFP was a Revolution Brewing Anti-Hero. Yesterday was too hot and humid for wine

2018 Domaine Servin Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons. Good match for a warm and humid Friday night in Nashville.

Just to offer something different and weird..

Szekszardi Kadarka 2021 - a light Hungarian wine, short on tannins, but long in acidity. Bonus: sour cherry and paprika (!) flavors. I'm glad I opened and experienced it, but I'm not sure I recommend it.

2010 Beaucastel CdP. I was not liking it on the first glass. A bit of a hot mess. Trying again tonight to see if it is better or worse.

Ok this was quite nice on day two. Guess it need more time and/or more air to get past the messy hot stage.

We were travelling around Europe for 5 weeks or so, so CT took a back seat. Also, as part of a possible exit from Hong Kong, we finished emptying our ~200 bottle fridge and are now in a serviced apartment with just a dozen or two bottles for short term drinking.

So the opportunity to tease you folks with FFP posts as you wake up on a Friday morning has diminished.

It's that time again! This week it's what is essentially the house fizz at the moment: Tristan Hyest Blanc de Blancs Les Terres Argileuses Extra Brut, which is slipping down very nicely as usual.

Happy Friday!

'Chance' India Pale Ale, from Wild Leap Brewing Company, LaGrange, Georgia, USA (~30,000 population).

Pre-Covid, there was a time when a new brewery was opening up in the U.S. every 12 hours, on average. But it's tough to make it - to get noticed, to get press coverage, name recognition, shelf space in stores...

6 years ago three people tried this in 'small town America' and they're still going. I think this IPA is really good - centered, not excessive in any direction, just a good, rock-solid IPA.

Paul, without you the forum lacks color. Looking forward to your new home (a wine region?) and a higher volume of wine reporting!

By the way (on topic!) for two weeks, my Friday wines were all from Chinon, and mostly from Olga Raffault. I like her stuff: among Chinon reds (100% cabernet franc) we were drinking a wine she calls La Singuliere with some age on it (she was selling the 2014 and 2015 at almost the same price as the 2021!) and also the 2010 Chinon, which had even more age. Interesting wines: they all have a very distinctive aroma of mushrooms and some green pepper on them, almost a coppery character. I liked them a lot, but kept asking myself "is this corked?" because mushroom isn't necessarily what I expect in a wine.

Her rose was excellent, and we loved it -- very crisp and dry with a bitter finish that works sensationally with food. A lot of rose is a bit insipid on the finish. This tiny note of bitterness somehow made all the difference.

And she had a great white wine too, the 2019 Champ-Chenin. Again, that little note of bitterness. Awesome stuff.

So I strongly recommend checking out her wines, and not hesitating to let them age a bit.

My FIRST pour this evening is a Surly Brewing Axeman DIPA - a long-time favorite of mine. But with supper we will be having a 2021 "Le Cigare Orange" from Bonny Doon Vinyards.

Randal Graham is gone, but Le Cigare lives on...

FFP was a Steel Rail Ale at SGC with lunch after golf.

So is this retirement thing…

Back in the saddle after a week off with a chest infection (that the missus brought back for me as a gift from Europe!)

In a change from the fizz of recent months, this week a simple NZ pinot gris kicks the evening off. A starightforward drop, but at ~US$9/bottle very reasonable QPR.
