We haven't missed a [Burgundy] Thursday in over five years.

Maybe I see this as a chore more than a wonderful thing to look forward to. However, I refuse to be the guy that spoils the party. As a firm believer in self discipline and acquired taste I've set forth upon the Thursday task. Tonight's findings do not show much progress. But, this is merely a start. Maybe insights come next week?

Some Vosne-Romanée:
Burgundy Thursday. Non-blind. 5 hrs decant.
See through, pale-red color.
Upon opening: Earthy oak barrels and some red fruit.
After decant: Slightly more rich. Some sweet licorice added.

Upon opening: Thin, acidic, profoundly non-interesting wine.
After decant: Thin, acidic, non-interesting, short wine displaying some red berries and timid oak.

425 SEK = £37 = €47 = $59 =
-> 3,5 btls of Clos del Rey
-> 1 btl of Andrew Will Sorella
-> 1 liter of 16 yr Lagavulin
The Burgundy Thursdays will continue to look for the enigma hidden in the Burgundy riddle.

Happy Fecking Burgundy Thursday
HRH and I load 117 students on buses tonight and head to Orlando. I'll have a glass of St-Veran before we go to keep my streak intact.
I'll take a bottle and two flasks!
(really the kids are awesome, and I get to sing "Soul Man" on stage at House of Blues Sunday morning at breakfast)

First impressions
Really intriguing. Guava and a little pineapple on the nose with a touch of lemon zest. some oak on the palate and an almost oily mouthfeel that I sometimes get from Pinot Gris. Blind, I would immediately guess Pinot Gris, but not Alsatian (maybe Burg or Oregon). Interesting tartness (it IS 07)
Will live with it for a while. It's gonna be great with tonight's shrimp and grits (season just opened a few weeks ago).

For shrimp--not grits
dumb sith me--didn't say what I was drinking
2007 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru La Perrière
Blanc--the grape is "Pinot Gouges"

I think the nicer term for the oily mouthfeel in PG is a butteriness or Sicilian olive oil texture. Enjoy the grits. I always look forward to decent grits as soon as I pass down through the Mason-Dixon line. I still don't understand why the haven't redrawn that line not to include Maryland in "The South," as real grits are almost non existent.

I'm in.

2002 Gambal Chambolle-Musigny - light Garnet to brick dust edge. Airy cherry nose. Cherry, strawberry, spice and lingering sweet tart finish. Elegant and easy. Nice. Drinking well.

Recent note from CT, but Mrs. Swade and I are enjoying this again tonight. Consistent notes.

Happy BT on CT!

The Gouges changes very little over the course of the meal. I'll wait 4-5 years before the next one. It was magical with the food.
Finishing the evening with a little Vouvray.
Burgundy/Loire Thursday anyone?

As usual it's dry Thursday but looking forward to FFP. Well, partially as its an opening at Dr. M's place, an exhibit of 100 photographs by Alabama photographer Jerry Siegel. Look him up or go to her website for Jule Collins Smith Museum. Still, crappy wine at her openings.

The Savigny is delicious. Still needs a few years but it is starting to show like aged Burg. HRH missed the year (barely) but nailed it otherwise (tasting blind)
