I'm sorry for Paul's loss. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't realize DP had a sister that lives so close to me in the Twin Cities. It is a small world.

Just enjoyed a 2014 Result of a Crush. Check out the “Pro Review” from Full Pull.

This is a great new agreement/CellarTracker feature. Thank you Eric and Paul!

BTW #2/6: the wine is flowery, balanced with mineral layered in blue-black fruit and savoriness. Will try to hold my other bottles but may find it difficult.

It is nice to see the addition of a FullPull interface with CT. I had been copying and pasting email commentary in to my private notes so that I could remember why I bought some of the offerings.

I didn't hear that. No La Rata, no La Rata. Have too much wine. So no La Rata no La Rata. But I loved the '15 and so far 2016 is tasting like it will be my favorite vintage ever! How can I not have...no La Rata no La Rata.

I’ve gotten the La Rata every year since its inaugural release, so how could I skip this one in good conscience? In for three....

Me too, and most are still resting comfortably.

I put in for 6, will probably get 3 just like last year.

I put in for 4, will be interested to see what I end up getting.

Curious how many bottles folks end up buying from FP annually. I am new to the FP game and have 2.5 cases pending shipment when the window opens. Are they generally picking winners to sell or is there a lot of hot air to sort through to figure out what the winners are? When I compare FP to lastbottle I think that the FP guys are genuinely trying to find winners, where the lastbottle can be hit or miss, so buyer beware....

Can’t speak to Last Bottle.

I love the FP model and Paul Zitarreli has turned a passion for good, often obscure, value wine and writing in to a service that I continue to enjoy through my wine evolution. Mostly I’m getting WA Syrah that won’t be available locally and drink well relatively young (the ‘12s are drinking great) while I’m aging most of my young cellar. I get a few of the house label wines and a smattering of other varietals and regions he offers. Much of what he offers is more “value” than I am shopping for but find a 2-3 cases per year, way more hits than misses.

I started collecting with Garagiste, but within a year, switched over to Full Pull.
Now gradually I'm moving more to winery direct.

Top Store and percentage of annual buy:
2014 Garagiste 483 bottles, 81%
2015 Full Pull 272 bottles, 29%
2016 Full Pull 166 bottles, 22%
2017 Full Pull 61 bottles, 12%
2018 Full Pull 54 bottles, 12%
2019 Full Pull 54 bottles, 14%

There are some wines (like La Rata) which I build into my buying plan, with Full Pull as the store.
But most of what I buy from Full Pull are new untried wines, and affordable daily drinkers.
I try to include 100 bottles per year in my plan for New Untried Wines (NUW). Most of these come from Full Pull.

Sometimes you can buy wines from Full Pull cheaper than winery direct.
Usually Full Pull sets the price 1 cent below winery retail.

Ben curious what made you switch from Garagiste to FP? I'm on both lists (relatively new to both) and although the "mystery wine" concept would be fun to play with, it seems gimmicky to me but the FP guys seem to just want to get some good stuff out there.

Also, did you use CT to do those calculations? That was pretty cool.

I should pick up more at Full Pull, but traffic! Sometimes it is 35 minutes home, other times 2 hours. I would sometimes spend 2 hours (at happy hour prices) at Schooner Exact in the same complex, but it is closed and is now San Juan Seltzer. I usually do a loop of Esquin Wine (4th/Lander) then Full Pull. Sometimes the SoDo Grocery Outlet.
I'll be heading there in the next couple of weeks, 53 bottles (if a few recent orders aren't there). But I order for 3 households, so actually picking up 117 bottles (= not driving the Supra). Not really intentionally using them for wine storage; I have room in my passive storage basement.
On La Rata, I'm guaranteed 2, ordered 3. And right now I'm drinking the outstanding 2016 Agricola San Felice Chianti Classico ($15, bought a case from Full Pull)

Full Pull and Last Bottle are very different business models from my view. FP is almost always current release desirable wines, whereas Last Bottle are leftover inventory that have not moved through normal distribution. That is likely an overgeneralization, but its my impression.

My FP history is as follows:

2009 5 bottles purchased out of 7 where I listed the store
2010 52 out of 99
2011 71 out of 332
2012 140 out of 717
2013 62 out of 398
2014 36 out of 313
2015 18 out of 170
2016 22 out of 67
2017 24 out of 106
2018 12 out of 78
2019 10(+2 awaiting potential allocation La Rata) out of 22

I obviously went through a "wild buying rampage", aka the CT Bump, and my FP buying went through same bump. I also know I sucked at assigning "store" to many of my early purchases, so may have missed a lot. Over past 5-6 years many of my FP buys have been repeat of favorites in a new vintage. I'm in Washington, so I knew the wines often, but I have had good luck with imports and OR wines. I've bought from FP because of a) convenience, b) price is competitive, and c) Damn Paul is a damn good writer and sly dog.

Got 3 La Rata, same as last year. I have a vertical back to the 2012 vintage.

quote:

curious what made you switch from Garagiste to FP?

One thing was lead time. Garagiste was quick to take my money, but took months to deliver. FP only takes your money when the wine is allocated and available for pickup. I also prefer NW wines to imports. 93% of my buys are from Washington & Oregon, 5% from California, 2% from Europe.

quote:

did you use CT to do those calculations?

Yes. Chris pointed out that it is essential to fill in the STORE field, and thus you can do a report on purchases over time, and change the second item from months to store. CT is great for all kinds of whacky reports.

A special Thanksgiving shoutout to the good folks at FP.

The thread I started last week about receiving potentially cold-damaged wines from a retailer was referring to my fall Full Pull delivery. Was the problem with the shipping company who failed to send the tracking number? With my email service which may have put the notice in spam? (no, I checked) Was there even a problem at all since the temps were only in the upper 20s?

There were no such questions asked.

At my first mention of concern, I was offered my choice of replacement or reimbursement (and keep the wines). When I chose the latter, I was compensated for the 11 bottles I was concerned about and for all the shipping (and suggested I try the wines as they might be OK).

Refreshing!

Wow. That is above and beyond. Since I live by and pick up my own in my car, I wonder if they will do the same if I accidentally leave the wine in my car overnight. 😀

Seriously, kudos to the Full Pull team. Makes me want to buy more from them.

Class acts all the way. They once sent me some incorrect bottles instead of what I had ordered. They told me to keep the bottles that had been sent erroneously and immediately shipped out the right ones. For all of the examples of poor customer service that are out there, Full Pull is a shining example of doing it right.
