To be fair, 100% in a reactor (esp. a naval one) is based on a subjective notion of normal operation. Reactors can and do exceed it under exceptional circumstances.

Dark ruby robe. On the nose at first definite red fruit. First taste seemed neutral to me with medium to strong tanins. I carafed it for an hour, woah! It opened up to a well balanced wine. The nose evolved from red fruit to I think some light leather. I'm not much of a CDR guy, but this wine certainly changes things for me.

I'd hate to see the score if he disliked this wine!

On the Xavier Vignon 2016 CDP XV:

S 93 JD 97 AIRING IDEAS: Go simple, fast, easy and rustic, like they might do in the Rhone. Sausage, greens, and potatoes, all on one sheet pan. We_ve been doing this a lot lately out of convenience, and man, it's good! Try it with chicken, too. Recipe here.

Basically, here are some random score numbers (with a massive difference between them), and an "airing idea" which comes down to baking a bunch of meat on a sheet pan. Ok, but what does that tell me about airing? or the wine?

A typo no doubt. Missing the P. Obviously misses the difference between a personal/bottle note and a Tasting Note.

Spot on on Naval reactors. 100% is a very conservative number.

2018 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
1/19/2023 - XXX LIKES THIS WINE: 94 points
Two and a half hour decant. Very deep dark electric magenta color. Black cherry, red apple liqueur, blueberry cornmeal pancake, and lychee. Smooth, dry palate, with good acidity. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

This surprised me. Very fun, interesting CS. Reasonable QPR.

-----------

Blueberry cornmeal pancake? Lychee in a Cab? Huh

2/5/2023 - XXXX WROTE:97 points

It is not inexpensive, but it’s certainly at reasonable price point as compared to the top tier wines (which I cannot afford - unless I cut way back on my drinking - not going to happen)

This may sum up the attitude of a majority of CT users.

Does the person who wrote this tasting note use European date formats or is this tasting note back to the future?

Especially since the minimum score possible (following the RP/WA model) is not zero, it is 50. So this is the lowest possible score. I sort of imagine it wouldn't even be possible to swallow it, much less imagine trying another bottle of it.

I always imagined that the 0=50 means that at least you showed up for the exam. You didn't do anything, say anything. Just took up space.

Converting to wine, I'd say that whatever is in the bottle is technically/chemically wine or at some point was wine (now perhaps vinegar).

I might be mistaken.
It's also why - imagining a linear scale - that we should be seeing a lot of 75pt wines as "median wines" right in the middle of vinegar and perfection. Rather it's my impression that 80 is closer to 0, but this may be because the line is on a logarithmic/exponential scale (perhaps with some odd curvature).
Or perhaps more likely, that we don't bother reviewing (or even buying) wine that is below 80pt.

You Yanks and your number systems. I'm surprised that you don't write the time 28 minutes to 10 as "2810".

I think it is the Rest Of The World date format, rather than just European.

In fact Scandinavia has its own local date format convention, which is year-month-day. And that is actually the most sensible format of all. Because if you sort a list of such dates in alphanumerical order, for example if they were incorporated in filenames, they will line up in correct date order!

This morning, I gave myself a, "D'oh!" Why? Becuase I see two back-to-back TNs from different authors for a wine I have, the 2012 K Vintners The Beautiful Syrah Walla Walla Valley. I say, "D'oh!" because I might have waited too long to drink this. Here's the unfortunately similarity between the two TNs:

TN 1, "....Blackberry, plum, raisin, prune on the nose...this is evidently on the back end of its prime."

TN 2, "....Color definitely shows some age and browning...Color definitely shows some age and browning...Prunes, raisins, olive paste, subtle peppery oil"

It's the PRUNE that worries me the most. That's where most WA reds that push the ripe envelope turn when they're going past peak. I guess I'd better drink up!

Year-month-day is also common in Japan and China, as far as I know.

I use it for filenames too, for the reason mentioned.

There is no such thing. At least I haven't seen it anywhere - it's day - month - year everywhere.

Finland <> Scandinavia

Anyway, we use it here in Denmark from time to time, but mostly DMY, as you say.

As a non-Scandinavian, I've used year-month-day for decades with filenames. It just makes sense.

What doesn't make sense...

THIS was the first of my three and of course hard to believe the great ratings, but no longer. this is magnificent and loved by all my guests. I learned of the winery by reading Saxum notes from others so a thank you to Saxum. check out Seduire. i will buy every bottle XXXX offers me in their club. it is what wine should be. in balance, smooth, no aftertaste, and just GREAT

No aftertaste? As in no finish? And that's great?

I've had the wine in question, and it most certainly does have a long finish, so not sure what they mean here.
