Ciao people, I'm off to my weekly wine tasting club. Wonder what I'll be tasting in about 15 minutes?

Take a laptop and update us in real time..

Hah, in real time it would have been in Finnish, gotta translate my notes first! Two cheapies, but surprisingly good http://www.cellartracker.com/event.asp?iEvent=6135 A South African wine (Nederburg Cab-Merlot) that just had that S Af signature to it, and a Bulgarian that was almost comparable to the Greysac we had last weekend, but three times cheaper!!!

Cabernet Sauvignon and Rubin. Never heard of the latter... But the cassis was there very strongly in the aroma.

They probably really deplore me.  I tend to refer to amny larger cities by their airport three letter codes.  So San Francisco is simply "SFO" to me.

I'd rather be in Napa anyhow...

Amen, sister.

Yeah they'd probably dislike that.  Especially because the airport is actually in Daly City, which is just south of San Francisco.  So they would find it insulting that you would compare them to those "Peninsula" dwellers. I always found it funny that San Francisco is the tip of the peninsula separating the SF Bay from the Pacific, yet SF is still The City, and everywhere south is "The Peninsula."

It's a region with quite the identity crisis.

Right, well I've cracked open the first bottle of the day.  A sherry believe it or not.

there has been a lot of noise recently about sherry and how under valued it is as a wine both in monetary and appreciation terms.

£6 got me a bottle of Triana - seems quite nice.  A  nice appertif although it does look like prune juice

Hi Folks,

Hope everyone is well. Just back from Greece and looking forward to the weekend. Nothing better than returning from a business trip and finding wine we purchased in Sonoma this summer waiting for me. Like Christmas a month early.

Peter

Peter,

Are you ever at home?  Every time you post you are either in London, Paris, Greece or any other number of glamorous locations.

Tough life, huh?

I know, crazy isn't it. I think I tend to post more when I'm traveling because I have the time so it probably seems like I'm always gone. Still, my job has me on the road quite a bit but one upside is I do have a lot of flexibility when I'm not traveling.

Peter,

My summer Napa orders have arrived over the past week or two as well.  Now I must resist the daily temptation to end up like this:

I had an interesting morning.  At 5:30-ish my phone began to ring.  Good news always sleeps 'til noon, so I immediately answered it fearing the worst.

A friends greyhound had knocked out a screen and gotten out overnight, most likely to follow some critter into the heavily wooded area behind her home.  Would I be able to come and help search?

I tossed on some clothes and headed over there.  I'm glad that I had the common sense to take my GPS from my car, because we went back into the dense woods almost two miles and would have needed our own search party to get out of there otherwise.

Fortunately the dog decided she had enough of chasing armadillos and rabbits, and came out of the woods to terrorize a couple of neighborhood cats before laying down on someone's front porch a few streets away from her home.  The kind lady called the number on the dog's tag and in the middle of the woods we found out that the pooch was safe and sound.

Her white color was brown and she had a lot of scratches on her legs, but seemed otherwise fine.

Does this call for a toast?

They served this one (http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=163179) for lunch today and it was pretty good. An 88-89 pointer in my book.

Will go out tonight and see if I can buy the Portuguese wine that made it to the top 10 in the WS list.

hello, annerk, robw, Maestro, pbm, jhannah27, kelpcowboy, petitblanc, rbazinet , and guests.

Maestro,
Get that Crasto ... very tasty juice ... if you open anytime soon, make sure to give it some air ... and do not toss it down the drain if it smells like rotten vegetation upon opening, as my '04 of the same wine did ... after an hour or so it really opened up and was "hauntingly beautiful."
