I decided to drop Selyem. I have like 3 cases of the stuff from the last few years. I'll just try get a couple bottles ever other year from retail.

Yep--can't afford them. If I had know (far) in advance I might have diverted funds.

Passed on Ceritas. Have a case coming from Navarro, Mendocino, as soon as the hot weather clears for safe one-cent shipping. Ordered very late July, no wine yet. But also no credit card charge yet. And a better value than Ceritas for me.

I will be patient. There is vino here already, strangely, to keep me occupied until the next case comes in.

Where did this penchant for case purchases come from? Could CTers be enablers?

I am getting more experienced at buying in this way, and have had no negative experiences so far. In fact, I have had a few offers from wineries to purchase, even though I am supposed to be on the "waiting" list. Did not participate. The economy, maybe?

Cheers!

I got a notice from WillaKenzie of their club 45% off case sale. It get's the price down to where other WV PN that I buy and my notes for these say they are in the cool vintage style I prefer. I have until the end of the month to ponder the purchase.

Cayuse ordering opens up Wednesday for me.

Have passed on Betz, Roar, Loring Wine Co., opted for 4 each of the QC fall offering (CVR, Galitzine, Palengat).

I just went with QVC for QC. The others seemed over priced.

No Betz for me - again, unless they have a second/third tier.
I'll never see Cayuse before I die. Never heard of Loring.

Yeah i picked up a few Loring Pinot Noir's. Not really my style, but those big styled Pinot's do go well with some foods and they are always solid. Been purchasing from them for about 10 years now. Good people.

Siduri is another one i will pick up this fall.

I'm really hoping this year is the year I get a Cayuse allocation (joined the waitlist 6 years 4 months and 14 days ago).

Just received the "make sure to update your profile in preparation for fall offer" email from Scarecrow (M. Etain in the fall).

But who is counting?

Seriously, wow. That is a long time.

Compared to my recent experience of being offered some wine even though I am still on the "waiting list" for an allocation.....without an economic incentive to buy the "leftovers" IMHO.

Karl, it looks like some Siduri options are widely available in CA. Are there specific wines that are only sold through allocations/mailing list? Feedback on those, if applicable?

Cheers!

Never heard of Loring.

A small southern California (Buellton) Pinot and Chardonnay producer.

Had a 2013 Loring Garys' Vineyard Pinot Saturday night at a restaurant in the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. That's the Garys' Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands that is bottled by a number of producers including Roar and Pisoni (who jointly own Garys' vineyard), Williams Selyem, Kosta Browne, Lucia, A.P. Vin and Siduri, just to mention a few. There is also a Garys' Syrah vineyard that is widely sold to other wineries.

The Pinot was very nice although a little young. Average retail price is about $50 if you can find it. Las Vegas restaurant price was $120. Actually not a bad mark-up. They were also selling the 2013 Kosta Browne Keefer Ranch Single Vineyard Pinot for $275. Believe my cost from KB was $90.

While on the subject of really good Santa Lucia Pinot vineyards, did you know that Rosella's Vineyard, another great Pinot that's bottled by a number of California wineries, is very closely related to Garys' vineyard. Rosella is Gary Franscioni's wife (Roar Winery). Yes, he's half of the Garys' vineyard duo along with Gary Pisoni (Pisoni Vineyards and Lucia Vineyards).

In the next month or so my Fall Pinot Noir single vineyard deliveries.

2014 Rochioli Single Vineyard Pinots, 2014 William Selyem Vineyard Designated Pinots and Chardonnays and lastly the 2014 Kosta Browne Single Vineyard Pinots.

They are all designated to lay down in the wine cave for a couple of years before I even think of trying any of them.

Oy! Yes, in a few days the fall allocations rear their heads. Does anyone hear, "no room in the house!"?

Harlan is out and the flagship is up another $50 a bottle (now $750 per). In my limited records, this marks 4 years in a row of $50 per bottle increase. Insert straw breaking back here......

Interesting that I got a message from Kosta Browne that I will not yet get an allocation. But given other incoming I am good with that. My Navarro Vineyards order from late July is still on shipping delay due to hot weather. That's OK. Total incoming = 14 bottles. Would be nice to receive my Navarro case, but paying for air shipping not needed.

Plenty of wine here to keep us occupied.

Went to Costco yesterday to browse as I have a gift card. Based on several trips, decided to just make it easy for me. In the fall, I'll get 6-8 bottles of Cam Hughes and Kirkland Signature. Just too much work to price-compare their other stuff, and, in my experience, they are only occasionally price-competitive for branded juice.

I've had good success w/Cam Hughes in the past. They have options <=$10 which seem fine.

I hope by Flagship, you mean the most expensive wine purchased in a given year.
Still way higher out of the water than my flag tugboat.

Fall allocation for Liquid Farm hit yesterday. I'm in the 6-bottle membership but ordered an additional 6 to fill a case, guess I should look into changing my membership to the 12 bottle. Sitting here sipping a '14 LF Bien Bien chard that is quite nice!

PinotPhile, Navarro is worth the wait, one of the best QPRs around (IMHO).

No question on Navarro. This is my 4th case in 2 years, which is huge for me. 2 of the January mystery packs, 2 other cases. Visited years ago and have not been disappointed in any wine. They noted that shipping in July/August most years is often delayed. Goes through Bakersfield to get to SoCal. Temps > 85 = risk. Can pay for air, can risk it, or can be patient. I want the one-cent shipping without risk to damaging the wine.

I wait. I am OK. Cheers!

Figgins - Their BDX now comes in a handy 6 pack, and their new Riesling in an easy to carry 3 pack.
I'll pass and probably never buy again.

Betz is pushing a Chennin Blanc partnership with Quinta Essentia (South Africa).
A bit more than I like to pay for Chennin Blanc, but I'll try 2.

Arnot-Roberts
3 bottle total - $25 shipping from California.
There needs to be some sort of Winazon Prime. Shipping can be murder.
Also some California producers charge sales tax, and some don't. What's with that?

Jumped on an Adelaida Cellars sale on their 2012 Grenache, splitting a case with our good wine consumer friends. Adelaida was our 1st wine club and we still belong, mainly due to their consistent quality and reasonable prices. Gonna let these rest for a week or two from their cross country travels, I'll post a TN in CT when we do pop one, maybe for the Snooth Garnacha day virtual tasting on the 16th.
