Had Bedrock, Carlisle and Reynvaan all drop this week, at least for me.

Interesting that you really cannot see anything on their site except to sign up for the mailing list.

Vincent Pre-Release for their 2021 Pinot’s. I love Vincent wines but I need more ready to drink wines so I’m going to pass. I also passed on my sons Williams Selyem allocations because prices were $75, $100 & $125. Too much. I also passed on Lorings 33% off sale as wines are $65 now so with tax and shipping they are $48 or so. Also too much. Think of all the money I’m saving.

I signed up in the spring and got an allocation this fall. Not sure how it will work for you, but I suspect they will wait until all "existing" members order by end of the month, then allocate any extras to newcomers. That is what they told me last time, and I think only thing available was the 3L box. Sorry I passed on that now.

Anyway, I ordered a full case of Kobayashi this time, mainly to get the "free" sweatshirt. Also want to check out a couple to see if future purchases warranted. I remember meeting Travis maybe 8-9 years ago and tried a Viognier (I think) that he made. Very good then, and I expect better wines now as Travis has evolved and has different (better?) vineyard sources.

I went for a mixed six of the Field Recordings 2021 Chenin Blanc wines. Not as cheap as they used to be, but still bargains and as good as you find in the Loire or South Africa. This isn't really a mailing list as much as an email reminder that there are new wines to check out.

Field Recordings is very off the radar but I really like (most of) their wines. There are never any TNs online or on the site, so each purchase is a bit of a shot in the dark. Just the same, I've only be disappointed once or maybe twice. They do reds (the ones I've had were field blends, quite good) and whites, and within the white wines, the Chenin Blanc offerings are the stars. In a dry style, but with enough extract to have that richness you look for in excellent Chenin Blanc. Acidity is usually evident but not over the top.

Cornell Vineyards seems to have made a tiny amount of wine in 2020. They allocated 3 bottles to me, and I figured I need to support them, what with the name (I’ve been at Cornell my entire career) and genuinely likening the wine very much. Curious to know what they did in 2020, though. The harvest has got to have been disrupted by the glass fire, but I think they make the actual wine on the other side of Napa at Continuium, which was far from the fire. Anyhow, it will definitely not be typical for them.

They actually lost most of their vineyards to the fire, so I’m guessing it will be 2024 or so before they have their next vintage — unless they can make a few bottles off vines that weren’t killed. Terrible situation.

Me either...thank the heavens?? LOL!!

Jonata (sister winery of Screaming Eagle) has dropped for their 2020 release. Anybody here buy from Jonata? I did in the past, but haven't in about 7 years or so and am surprised I'm still on their list.

Abreu: I’ll probably order the three pack of the new Tilting Rock blend. Could pass on the ultra expensive offerings (Capella, Madrona).

Ovid: I normally pass due to price, but you never know.

Has anyone heard of a new Napa project called Afterwords? I just received an allocation for their inaugural release. At $405 for a 3-pack, I’m passing, but was curious what the word on the street was.

Got offered the 2020 JL Chave rouge and blanc, at reasonable prices (from Sec, a store in Portland). I love JL Chave.

Even so, I decided it is time to pass -- I have a lot of Chave bottles and the rouge ideally needs 20+ years to approach its peak (at age 68, I am worried that I myself might pass my peak before the 2020 wines do). But in fact I was tempted -- they really are exceptionally good, and kind of unique stylistically. Oh well.

I intend to retire when I'm 65 which is in 2 years plus a handful of months. I also intend to quit buying any wine other than cheap chiantis, roses and spanish garnachas for immediate and seasonal consumption. I'll slowly drink down my 1,100+ bottle cellar. If I'm lucky I'll die with one bottle of Champagne left in the cellar for those that cremated me can pop it and celebrate.

How much wine do you drink a year? I figure my wife and I drink 20-22 cases a year. 1,100 bottles would only be a little over 4 year supply. Be careful not to run out too early.

But you need to factor in all the bottles you’ll still buy even when you quit adding ageworthy ones… nobody is running out of wine around here!

I am 65 and retired at 57 with the thought that I would cut my purchases considerably and perhaps cut consumption moderately. Instead, we have more free time for a bottle of wine on the porch, dinner with friends etc. and consume more now than when we were working (around 300 bottles a year). I also have more time to visit wine stores and websites so I have been buying more wine as well.

Having said all of that I have about 1700 bottles of wine (vs. 1450 when I retired) and it is time to start shrinking the cellar about 100 bottles a year.

I agree with both of you...Last bottle, last day. But make sure that you don't die without a great wine in your glass!

In the last couple of weeks:

Cayuse: order in.
Weathereye: pass.
Kapcsandy: pass.
Memento Mori: pass.
La Pelle: order in.
Paloma: pass.
Keplinger: pass.

Most of the above I passed on because they're just too damn expensive, yet I still seem to keep receiving offers.
