I'm noticing several cellars that have 2-3 of these 4 producers in their top 10's: Bedrock, Rivers Marie, Herman Story, Liquid Farm.

Not going to comb through the thread but it seems that these wines travel in a pack.

Is this a Wine Berserkers' thing? Darlings of that forum/that annual sale?

Yes. Liquid Farm, Dirty & Rowdy (recheck and you'll see that's popular too), Bedrock, Carlisle, EMH, Lagier Meredith, and a few others are very Berserker wineries. I discovered Jean Edwards Cellars during Berserker Day a few years ago.

Sorry, pclin - I just saw this...
I guess they're not top 10 in my cellar because I drink them.
Actually, it seems very difficult to purchase good Rhone wine in Dallas, Texas.

Interesting mix - you like lighter hued reds with power and secondary character. I was buying a lot of the Pepiere for a while but gave up on it as it never seemed to deliver what I wanted even with cellar time. Great one to collect if you want magnums though - so easily available!

I've had pretty good luck aging Pepiere. The 1997 Clos de Briords is drinking extremely well now and the 1997 Cuvee Buster is extraordinary.

As far as I know Herman Story doesn't play on the WB day and is not associated with the others.

At least for the last few years, Bedrock and Rivers Marie haven't participated in Berserker Day, but both are board favorites. I don't recall seeing much discussion of Herman Story on WB. Liquid Farm is definitely a Berserker Day favorite of the board.

Our cellar has been pretty steady for a few years now, and I don't see it changing too much as we've more or less stopped buying commercial wine. A few of the current top 10 list we are still club members, so those will stay in slots 2-5 or so, others will dwindle down as we drink down stock, but not sure how, who, or what we'd backfill with.

Our cellar has changed a bit in the past year or two. We live in Seattle so our cellar is WA++++++ and outside of WA it's more broad than deep, but we've started to accumulate from some producers outside of WA we really love. For example I feel like Foillard is only going to creep up going forward.

You can rectify that if you're talking about your own cellar. Break out the credit card!

I'm not surprised that I'm the only one with Heinz Eifel and Arrowood on their list. However, I am almost shocked to see that nobody else had Ponsot nor Comte de Vogüé in their top 10 given the love for Burgundy and some of the appellations they both get fruit from. In particular, I think Comte de Vogüé's Chambolle Musigny is one of the best expressions of that area with it's deft spice and hint of black cherry wishniak flavor. Ponsot is the gold standard for Clos de la Roche in my book, and some Berserkers got tired of me crowing about their Chapelle-Chambertin.

Ahhh, different strokes for different folks I guess.

Interesting mix - you like lighter hued reds with power and secondary character. I was buying a lot of the Pepiere for a while but gave up on it as it never seemed to deliver what I wanted even with cellar time. Great one to collect if you want magnums though - so easily available!

I probably just didn't give mine enough time Mike. Sampled bottles every year or so for 4-5 years and didn't see it doing much. Maybe it's wine you just need to leave alone for a long time then POP there it is.

Hey Guys - Some really interesting trends here. Surprised how much Ridge and Rhy's shows up! Here is my list:

Ridge has two thing going for it that make it hit a lot of top tens. Massive wine club subscription, many more casual wine-lovers who started with Ridge then got more serious but never went away from Ridge. A few of my family members in California have been in Ridge wine clubs since the early 80's for instance, and aren't generally wine geeks or cellar-horders. Their cellars (aka basement corners) consist of a case of random bottles and plenty of Ridge.

And Ridge is so damn reliable in producing wines at fair prices that cellar just fine. There next to zero likelihood that an aged bottle of Ridge is going to suck. If I'm in Total Wine or some similar store with $150 burning a hole in my pocket but no real sense of what I want/need, there's a good chance I walk out with 3-6 bottles on Ridge. Because I know that I'll never look at the stack of Ridge in my cellar and think "gawd what was I thinking?" Rather I'll be like - "oh look, I have 4 bottles of 12 year old Geyserville/Santa Cruz Estate/East Bench/etc, lucky me, time for some good drinkin'."

So yeah, Ridge, always a good/easy/just-shows-up choice.

This one had me thinking about what I have in the cellar compared to what I am purchasing today.

Top 10 in cellar

Littorai
Ceritas
CT Barrel Projects
Williams Selyem
Peay
Pavie Macquin
Pontet Canet
Forman
Arnot-Roberts
Leoville Barton

Purchased over the last 18 months

Kelley Fox
Arnot-Roberts
Ceritas
Littorai
Thomas
Ayoub
Morlet
Forman
Bollinger
Merry Edwards

Showing my age in the purchases. Plenty of 20 year wines in the cellar now. Also buying broader in Champagne and Italian wines. Top 10 driven by case purchases

All of my top 10 producers are New World wineries out of California, Oregon and Washington. Stands to reason. New World I tend to buy from mailing lists once or twice yearly therefore I end up with a lot of wine from the same group of producers. By contrast almost all of my Old World wines are bought in 2's, 3's and 4's. Two of this wine, two of that wine. Whatever the local retailers have available. Overall my New World versus Old World is roughly equal at 50/50 in my cellar. I just don't happen to have any single Old World producer that dominates due to the must purchase at retail syndrome when it comes to Old World wines.
