Yes ericindc, I am your SS. Hope you enjoy the RM!

My awesome secret santa sent me a 2013 Rivers-Marie Corona Vineyard Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2014 homemade cab/cab franc blend. Fantastic! I've never had a Rivers-Marie, and I'll looking forward to finding out more about the homemade wine once I sleuth out my secret santa.

Guess #1. Smahk, as I think there is a good amount of Cab franc on Long Island, and they were being stealthy by sending it from NJ

ok, someone outed Smahk as I was writing this so Guess No 2: nyccablover

Alas ericindc, I do have some Rivers-Marie in my cellar, but I am not your SS.

mmm, ok. Well given the New Jersey return address, my next guess is: Exit 105 (of the Garden State Parkway)???

Hmmmmmmm... 0 for 1 thus far. I'll stick with the CA location and guess that Scott W is my SS. No one has Lisini in their cellar but Scott W does have a nice Italian collection.

OKay - silly wild as$ guess #2
Vinopkm - you mentioned that your SS victim had made a request that was different - and I did that.
Are you my Secret Santa?

I suck at this! Alright 2nd guess...S1? I mean Burgundy was in the box and I talked up the Northern Rhone syrahs in one of the threads so maybe someone wants me to try the glory of California Syrah? That's my guess and i'm sticking to it

Sorry
But we do have some lovely parting gifts for you...

Well this is just evil or I am just not the brightest star in the sky

Sorry but you will need to Exit stage left as I am not your guy. Damn fine bottle you got from your generous SS. I like this game when i'm not the one guessing wrong

Well, Scott, to make it a bit easier, I am your Santa. Enjoy the wine.

Of course, I'm talking to the Scott in South CaroFlorida. S1, I've had that LaRata 2-3 times at offlines/tastings. Quite interesting imo, and definite Rocks/Barone influence. The Goat Rocks Syrah is an obvious give away, but I enjoy sharing our fruits when it turns out decent. That particular wine was just bottled, so I'd give it a while, but I'm pretty pleased with our first vintage on the home range. Cheers! CiSs

2012 La Rata is drinking well now imo. Last had it at the WB Seattle Grenache tasting before Thanksgiving, and it was rockin after a short slow ox. I had it top of flight, perhaps wine of the tasting except it for sure exhibits some non-Grenache character as it is 40% Cab. Anyway, that one is ready to go, imo.

2016 GR Syrah, I've been following in barrel, and will continue to follow probably monthly over next 6 or so from bottle. Obviously very young and I think best window is starting at least in 19 or 20 when acids have had chance to integrate and hopefully some secondary notes can develop. Barb complained about "feet" last time she sampled it, so that means it's right on course to develop some good earthy funk notes. But yeah wait a while on that one.

OKay - Numba One Bad Santa reporting in!

Coco and I opened the box-o-wine that was hiding under the tree (and now I know why Coco was always sniffing under there!) this morning, but have been unable to crow over my lovely gift until now!

A 2015 Domaine Huet Vouvray, Le Haut-Lieu Premiere Trie!
WOot!
What a fantastic bottle and a fantastic producer!
Goodness I'm beside myself!
Thank you, Thank you!!

So - supersleuth I am not - but I did poke around to see if anyone had this bottle - and so - my first guess is MindMuse.
MindMuse - are you my Secret Santa?

(as a side note - I can't remember my password to Imgur so can't post a photo….

Oh hella yum! (Hint, hint!)

😜

That’s an awefully odd password, no wonder she forgot it!

(Nevermind, just a Good Santa acting bad... Happy Holidays all!)

Endordr you are correct! I tried to be sly this year after a litte ribbing from River Rat last year.
Generic box - check
Buying a wine not in my cellar - check
Putting secret Santa as the name on the box - check
Changing my CT location from NC to WY - check
Changing back to NC after first guess - check

Great guess Endordr! After snooping your cellar I thought this was something you would really enjoy.

Happy Holidays

Wow; that was tough. You picked a wine that I never heard of. Hunt McKay seems to be a small producer; it's not reviewed by WS in their Cabernet issue. I'm glad that you sent me something new; I'm always on the hunt for something different.

After looking though everyone's cellars and locations the first time around, I didn't notice the change in your location back to NC. I guessed you, because you have many wines from smaller wineries in California. I figured that you must travel to Napa and do a lot of tastings.

In any case, I want to thank you for your wonderful gift. I will certainly enjoy drinking it.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year! PM me if you are ever in South Florida.
Cheers,

Jeff

WOOF WOOF WOOF!!!

Someone's knocking at the door!
Somebody's ringing the bell!
Open the door,
Let em in!

Missive from Cocobean - day 643
Well - THAT was anticlimatic.
The tall bi-ped finally discovered the box lurking under the tree, there was a great deal of excitement.
They ripped it open - okay - *I* ripped it open and within the box was a bottle of wine.
Much oohing and ahhhing from the bi-peds, and rapid tapping on the silver box, but for me?

PPPFFFFFTTTTTT.
I don't get it.

Though I will say, that after opening these 'bottles of wine', the bi-peds get cheery and I get lots of cookies and treats.

So maybe, while maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store, or a box
I would eat a fox in socks (just saying)
This was fun!
And my mission is done!

Ok - our turn to break the rules, but we met rackit and mrs rackit over a bottle of said wine which he was kind enough to share from an adjoining auction table. That wine is good.

I received a 2009 Domaine Pierre Usseglio Mon Aieul CDP. My santa read my wish list and out did themselves. Now to attempt to guess as the bottle came directly from K&L and the buyers name is covered with white out and white out tape. I tried unsuccessfully to scrape the area to no avail...

Great looking Wines everybody. As I said on the other thread, it is nice too see that everybody is keeping up a great forum tradition.

I don’t know how Tom, is going to sit on that Tig for another 10+ years, but if he needs a good home for it, Upstate NY is always a great place to store it.

Happiest of holiday to all of you.

It’s been a crazy year here and isn’t slowing down soon.

A little hint for my "victim": I have been in the same "Santa" group as you since 2014.

OK, my Santa is from SoCal. My package was sent from SoCal, the inner box had a piece of a FedEx label still attached. A wine shipment from Gary V, with a tracking number. Address in SoCal. My Santa wrote me a note saying he won a Tubbs Fire Relief Auction Lot from me. That does not leave many choices in Socal. vinopkm, Kyle are you my Santa?
