Last weekend I was at my stepmother's place, and she asked me to bring up some wine from the cellar. It had been given to her by a friend, and was supposed to be "sweet wine." As a consequence of having had Lyme disease, sweet stuff tastes horrible to her now. So this wasn't just "wine," this was homemade stuff, with fanciful and perhaps nebulous and off-kilter names. Viking Vino Chicken Wine Shark's Blood Berry Red blend Frankenwein - Makers of the Mad The friend who it came from was not the vintner - the wine was made by an unknown third party. So, what could go wrong...? 😄 I'm not sure how long it had been since bottling, months or years, anyway. Two of the bottles had large air spaces, so that looked like oxidation maximus. I did taste the Frankenwein, and it was gratingly sweet with a grim and shockingly brutal amount of chemically poisonous other taste. (I'm sitting here now thinking, "Doug, you were a dumba$$ to taste that - you could have died.") The 'Chicken Wine' - what the heck is chicken wine?! Good grief...
