visited 21st Amendment in SF this weekend, and enjoyed a few of their beers...mainly Belgian style beers, including an Abbey Ale, a Quadruple, and a Dark Ale called "Monk's Blood" (http://www.21st-amendment.com/documents/MBSpecSheetLR.pdf)...of those 3, the Abbey Ale was my favorite, followed closely by the Monk's Blood...the Quadruple was just too boozy (11% or so)...also had the holiday beer, Holiday Spice (or something like that)...it was quite seasonal, with a bunch of baking spice flavors (cinnamon, nutmeg)

they make a fantastic IPA.

yes they do...I had one of those too, but they only had it in cans this time...no problem however as, on Sundays they are only $2, and the beer is still great

I love 21st Amendment beer (and the food is great as well). They made a triple hop something or other a few years ago that was insanely good. Every beer I have had there has been really flavorful and well made.

LoL....I was just doing a search about that. Great minds think alike.

From the brief search I just did, it looks like they sell some of their beers in cans, but I couldn't find out where we migth be able to get some. I'll keep looking after work.

BTW - The beer I was referring to above was the Double Trouble I.P.A. Brian, you would love this stuff. Big hops dominate, but the crazy thing is that it still finds balance and it works like crazy.

No Problem. You might want to call ahead to the one she will stop at to make sure they have it in store. Sometimes they carry different stuff than what's online.

Also, it looks like they only have the Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer and the Brew Free or Die IPA. Both only come in cans, which I find strange, but whatever.

The Brew Free or Die IPA is exactly what I'm looking for ... I've only seen it in cans.

Cans > Bottles for boating. During the summer I drink Dales Pale Ale and Snapperhead/PorkSlap: Butternuts Beer and Ale

Take those canned IPA's out for a nice Christmas cruise, I wish I could, but Lake Erie is nearly frozen, and our boat is shrink wrapped. Can't wait to get to Florida on January 4th!

I love Dale's Pale Ale --- I've had it both from can and on tap. The Gordon's IPA (also made by Oskar Blues) is a fantastic canned IPA.

had these last night:
Requiem - Espresso Stout. I thought this was very nice: you can taste the coffee, but it’s not overwhelming. The 7.5% alc. is dangerously hidden – most Stouts that stout approach being sickly, to me ... not the case with this one. Definitely more on the bitter, rather than creamy, side of things (in case you’re reading this, Rob).

Samuel Smith - “Taddy” Porter. It’s been waaaay too long since I’ve had this beer. So good, it almost makes me laugh. Easily the best porter I’ve ever tasted. Gawd, I love this beer!!

I had a bottle of the Steelhead Stout last night. Pretty good stuff, especially for the price as it is much cheaper then all of the others I've had. A little bit of a coffee note in this one but it was pretty smooth.

I'll have to give that one a shot, I haven't tried it before. I usually prefer smoother stouts ... but every once in a while I get in the mood for an Imperial Russian Stout.

I have a bottle of the Rasputin Imperial Russian Stout in the beer fridge. I haven't tried that yet. Not sure what to expect.

that's the precise beer I was thinking of when I mentioned Russian Imperial Stout. The Rasputin is darker than dark, >10% alc (iirc), and it's THICK --- like old motor oil thick --- it's very very good stuff, but it's a sipper, for sure. I rarely drink more than one of those in any given sitting (not because it's too alcoholic, per se ... more because it's just an absolutely humongous beer). Definitely give it a go --- my gut tells me that it won't be to your liking, but I sincerely hope that I am wrong, as I believe that is one of the best Russian Imperials out there.

Boulder Brewing - "Mojo" IPA --- very good.  plenty of citrusy hops

Harpoon - IPA -- more in the English (i.e.: weak) style of IPA -- malty ... good, but lacking in the hops

Bell's - Amber Ale --- gosh, I love this brewery!  they really can do no wrong, in my book.

Just cracked two very different styled Belgians.

le Chouffe Houblon Double IPA - Enjoyed for the first time at OC Poker for wine II (right?) and fell in love with it. This is the only the second time I have had it and god damn is this good beer. Hoppy with a touch of yeast, smooth slightly creamy and a hint of a bite on the finish. Yum!

Trappist Rochefort 10 - I have had the 8 a couple of times and loved it, so in an attempt to turn RoundersRob onto something other than stout, I thought he would dig the Rochefort. First time having the 10 and wow! MUCH smoother than the 8, despite being a "bigger" ale. Rich, creamy, dark chocolate and roasted nuts. This is several dollars more than the 8 and completely worth the difference in price. Excellent stuff.

James Page - Amber Lager
Reinaert - Flemish Wild Ale Special Reserve
Summit - Extra Pale Ale
"Black and Blue"
- half Guiness, half Blue Moon

Now why would we want to do that? :) Besides, we can't be too hungover, we're playing hockey at 11am tomorrow.

The Trappist was quite nice, even for a Stout guy like me. Really surprised that it's over 11% abv.

I also picked up a Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout to compare to the Samuel Smith I've been enjoying lately.

Just picked up a Rodenbach Grand Cru Flemmish Red Brown Ale.

Blend of 33% "young" Ale and 67% Ale matured for two years. I am going to pop it in a couple hours, looking forward to it! Never had something like this.

When I can get my hands on it, Mirror Pond pale ale from Oregon is my favorite ... and I don't have any right now ... which means I'm drinking Summit EPA ... which isn't bad ... but not as good as Mirror Pond ... I'm thirsty!!

Update after finishing this bottle....

VERY interesting. Reminded me of a Gueze, but it had a more sour melon/soy sauce aspect to it. I think I was the only person in the group that actually liked it. Lots of balsamic and soy sauce with a sour fruit and citrus finish. I can't see myself drinking it every day, but I quite enjoyed it.

VERY sour. Had a soy sauce, balsamic vinegar nose and taste up front, and finished with soft sour melon and tropical fruit. It's kind of hard to put into words actually, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. As I said, it's not something that I would drink everyday, but if the mood strikes I could get behind picking it up again.
