First a "thank you" to Trey from the winery, who read my previous review and replaced the bottle I thought had a little VA going on. This one certainly did not. Very much a rocks Syrah, with all the mushroom, meat and olives (sounds like a pizza) and dark, dark fruit. BIG for sure. Gonna last a while, feel free to let it rest. Decant if you're gonna pop it now.

Decanted 2hrs. With Galardi in the past, I have found them either too young and yet full of promise or good to very good, but never quite getting over the hump for greatness. Saturdays bottle was a stand up triple and scored two runs with ease. While you could sense a little gloss of French oak, it really felt integrated and didn’t come at the expense of masking the Aglianicos robust and burly persona. In fact, it really came across as seamless, with great cut of dusty, dark plums and a little typicity of brick dust and some volcanic / pumice sprinkles. In a great spot now but this isn’t going anywhere soon. I’m excited for my last bottle in a few years and here is to hoping my tens can go equal this experience.

A burly, almost in-your-face blast of dark fruit, boot polish, creosote, coffee and distant toast and mineral notes. While not subtle, this wine did provide considerable pleasure with its dark-fruited, full-bodied, glycerin infused palate. Better after extended aeration. Drinking well now but with the structure to improve over another 5+ more years of cellaring.

Baby killing. Opened to enjoy during wine club Zoom w/ Justin and Brooke. Decanted for about 2 hours after pouring through a vinturi. The merlot component makes this very enjoyable now, but still needs time to fully integrate. Wait a while, 3+ years and this will reach potential imo

Really great, with a lot of depth of dark fruits. Had been giving away several as gifts so needed to try myself. Definitely can wait a few more years to mellow out some clove/menthol notes.

Pnp from coravin and drinking so well. Wishing I could open the rest of the bottle and drink the rest, but real life is getting in the way.
Dark fruits, gamey meaty, olives, tar, pepper, tomatoes and roasted vegetables (in a good way, I know it sounds awful). This is like drinking a meal. Long finish and just outstanding. I’m probably rating too low.

Edit: I still enjoyed on day 2 but my husband insisted it smelled like portable toilets. Just giving full disclosure;-)

Not going to rate it. Not ready yet. Had decanted for an hour, and then on a whim threw the last 2/3 of the bottle in a blender. Marked improvement, though wouldn’t say it got over the hump. Hold.

It was chili-garlic shrimp night at my house and THIS wine was in the fridge. What a lovely pairing. Juicy, but NOT overripe fruit, apricot, lychee and minerality and some softness that all came together for an impressive package. Bravo August Forest!

In an amazing "ready to drink" spot. Really. Things have softened, the color is bricking, smooth, not a tannin above a whisper.

  • Comment posted by TallMikeWine:

8/4/2022 9:41:00 AM - Yes, bricking. I did not decant. This was ready after popping and pouring. I don't think you can expect a long life from inexpensive Bordeaux, personally. The CT window is probably just a little off, as it can sometimes tend to be. IMHO.

This was a long night of observing this wine, a second growth bordeaux, a wine of esteem, go from "meh" to "hmmm" to "oh, okay" and on to "wow, hmmm". Opened with a fairly restrained nose of currant and cedar. Nothing too special. But eventually a bit of exotica moved in, bigger and better fruit flavors (it's an '05, so fruit was not what I was banking on). Later in the evening the fruit got all condensed, dried fruit, dark fruits. And my last few sips, probably 5 hours after opening the bottle, the tannins were the most notable thing. Drying, so dry, incredibly dry. This may have been an accumulative effect. I'm curious what will happen with these (I have 2 more) over the next few years. It's certainly ready to drink now, but yeah, another 5 years at this stage I am guessing.

This happens sometimes. But I did not expect it to happen here! Going to a restaurant with your wine, to pay corkage. And the restaurant has no decent glassware. Sure, can happen anywhere, but I was at a "nicer" ($$$) place, IN SONOMA CA!!! They bring small water glasses to the table for the wine. WTF??? So, no rating here. I know it was good, but there's really no detail as to what we tasted (dense dark fruit, floral). The wine was good, food was good. Experience not good.

  • Comment posted by TallMikeWine:

4/21/2022 8:24:00 AM - I looked around and didn't see any glassware with stems AT ALL! I think they're trying to be "old world" rustic, it is a tapas place.

So much floral...dried roses, dried tree bark. Just a very dusty nose overall. Some cola, or Dr Pepper even. Medium body, still good acidity. This is something you could pour for a Pinot lover and convince them it's a Pinot's more interesting cousin. But it's not. It's a Nebiolo, from Italy. And it's certainly more Old World than new. A few more good years ahead of it, but in a nice drinking window now for sure.

So good. Soft and round but rich and full. The flavors have melded well so nothing really jumps out but I’d say leather, cocoa, a little mellon, and a hint of cranberry. The residual tannins are there for presence but not bitter or sour at all. …honestly, I have no idea what I am talking about so read someone else’s review for how it tastes. I definitely like it and am thrilled I have a couple more bottles. These can easily cellar at least 5 years, maybe more, no problem. Enjoy

Someone please slap my hand if I reach for this in the next two to three years. At first this has deep red fruit, some clear oak/vanilla. Still some nice complexity but not really together. Day two with just a glass left in the decanter, this is really great. Lovely savory flavors and everything seems nicely integrated. Note to self: stay away for a while!!
