I was pleasantly surprised as well. Plenty of fruit on the nose. Not a lot of depth or complexity, but just a very pleasant, drinkable wine. Alot of red berries. The tannins were soft...no bite or burn. Nice.

We tried this with a soy, brown sugar marinated salmon and it was perfect. Not the combination you would expect to pair. The slight sweetness and soft tannins were, surpisingly, a fantastic match. It had depth and fanesse, but not overpowering. We are not normally Merlot drinkers, but this was definitely the right wine at the right time.

A beautiful wine. A surpisingly very fragrant and fruitful nose. Full-bodied, but soft tannins. More than we expected.

Some berries on the nose, thin, no character. Seems well beyond it's prime. Maybe a little cooked.

I can't say I've reviewed many wines, in fact this is my first note on this website, but I have had several Kistlers over the last year or two. Like a good lobster, sometimes it's an aquired taste (incidently this is a great wine with lobster). Now I love the Kistler chards and I know what to expect. There's a lot of citrus and minerality, as others have pointed out. This one has a cloudy, honey-colored hue and nice tropical nose; oaky, but not overpowering. I had the Dutton Ranch Kistler a few days earlier, which seemed to have a little more character, but this is still a nice wine.
