You never know opening aged Cali Chardonnays -even with pedigree PM,Marcassin,J Rochioli etc.
I brought this as a “back up” to a current vintage. Was prepared to open a bottle that went from straw to golden in a few minutes. I was surprised, maybe shocked at the color. It was a medium strong pale color. It didn’t change.Was poured within one hour of opening. Beautiful fruit, beautiful balance.long finish There is no doubt this is one great example of how California Chardonnays can age. I didn’t purposely age this wine. Just had bottles to go over the years and found this one that needed to be tried.
PS. I bought this wine release and it has been stored at 55° since.

MAGNUM purchased on release and stored at 54. Pulled cork at 9:30 AM FOR BBQ in evening.
Initial takeaway was this could be special wine. Turned out true. Amazing color. Still dark purple. Nose of tar, black fruit,spice ,pepper, hint if camphor. A lot going on.
Full bodied and well developed. Great fruit still. Great balance. Seamless. 9 wine knowledgeable friends were very happy. Hard to imagine much better but I don't see going down anytime soon if great provenance.
Sadly last bottle.

You never know what to expect with older wines in this case a 17 year old chard.
For starters I Coravon'd this.
First glass notes
Medium yellow color. Hazelnut,creme brule, medium oak , slight caramel notes, surprisingly good fruit. Smooth supple body. Alcohol showing through on the back end.
I am not a fan of aged Chardonnays of this length but was not shocked that this wine showed well.
Now that I have a glass down I look forward to the next.
Pairing with Ina Garten Coquille St Jacque recipe.

What a great showing again for this wine..medium ruby purple. Popped venturied and poured Clear with little to no bricking at the edge. This bottle was purchased on release. Bouquet subdued
Great balance. Beautiful,fruit dark cherry supple Served with tradional Swedish Meatballs on Christmas Eve.
Really a great 12 year old Cali merlot. I've had a bunch. This is a winner.
I think is at peak but could hold for another couple years. .

It has the stuffing to last a for 5 more but at its peak right now in my opinion For a 11 year California Merlot a really nice surprise. I bought and cellared this wine on release.

Chtaeau St Jea over delivers. Great winery- really nice people in tasting room Spend the extra bucks and ask for Bob in the Reserve Room

OK Had a few glasses waiting for the chicken to catch up with the heat . I was really surprsied by this wine again. Great NV SB. Nice balance of flavors citrus,melon a little bit lees. One glass calls for another. I have been a long time fan of Duckhorn wines. to me this is a NV SB standard
I got some magnums off website to boot... Another 6-12 months this wine will be singing

Decanted for 4 hours. Throwing very little sediment. Deep purple color. Beautiful nose of blueberry, cassis black fruits and more blueberry. Incredible balance and wieght. Great fruit. Really a stunning wine. Hard to believe its a 13 year old wine. Still a baby. I would give this wine another 5+ years. Just drinking so well now though. Enjoyed with Roast Prime Rib

Really nice purple color even to the edges. nice dark friut, black cherry.blueberry.black olive note in the background. Nice friut intially..nice balance. time to drink up as the tannins are looming.
This wine surprised me for being this good after 12 years! enjoyed with simply seasoned riib eyes.

Medium gold color,Stone, mineral,toast,quince peach.Simply beautiful but still restrained nose.
very lush,rich,mineral, mouthcoating fruit. Great balance with plenty of acidity to carry this for years.Lingering fruit in the mouth. Great stuff now. Begs for a simple lobster with drawn butter.

A pleasant surprise. Last bottle. Medium red ruby. Amber at the edge but no sign that the wine was over the hill. Currant cherry spice in the nose.probably 5 years past its prime but still holding fine balance. Nice fruit.

Medium straw yellow /green color. Meyer lemon, apple,pear nose ,subtle oak. Apple, pears and citrus flavors. Nice acidity and mouthfeel. Lingering finish. Really nice balance on this wine. Like the Pinot Noir,a great RRV wine for the money

Decanted a couple hours. Medium ruby color. bing cherry,cola,rasberry,spice in an ever expanding nose. Medium body. Beautiful cherry, earth and spice . Nice oak. Smooth integrated tannins. Great balance. This wine is fun to drink. Keeps getting better with each sip. Drank with grilled lamb chops.
A really fun Pinot to drink now but would benefit for a couple years in the bottle. For RRV Pinot this is a great buy.
