Excellent bottle of wine. Served with grilled burgers and onion rings. Reminded me of the scene where Miles finally drinks his prize bottle. Nice nose, solid fruit with well rounded tannins. Finish was long and smooth. Quite satisfying.

I don't have a very well developed palate for white wines, however this is one that really fits me. Buttery, smooth and balanced. Some may want more acid, but one of my favorites, especially if you factor in the price.

2013 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon Branding Iron

2/25/2023 - RedRedMoreRed Likes this wine: 95 points

Consumed on our cruise along with a M'Etain, Caymus SS, Cliff Lede Stags Leap and Myriad Three Twins. The Branding Iron was head and shoulders above the rest. Perfectly balanced with soft supple tannins. Still a lot of fruit on the palate, yet showing some age with it's secondary flavor development. I'll be moving these up in my drinking window as they are in a really really good spot.

I was worried that this one may have been over the hill, but was pleasantly surprise to still find a good bit of fruit on the palate. This wine delivered on the "feminine, softer" reputation for the Margaux region. Well integrated tannins and very balanced.

2010 Château Langoa Barton

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more

9/3/2022 - RedRedMoreRed Likes this wine: 92 points

Well integrated and balanced. Nose jumps out of the glass with strong aromas of tobacco and leather. Promising those earthy notes that to me are the hallmark of left bank Bordeaux.

The palate then delivers on the promise from the nose. Plenty of fruit still present. Drinking very well.

Full bodied showing good fruit. Terroir driven. This wine punched above it's weight and exceeded my expectations.

Just a fantastic wine that has aged gracefully and provides an explosion of taste. Fruit still present, though giving way to the tobacco, leather and cigar box flavors that I so love in a well aged wine.

Really outstanding bottle. The best one of the bunch so far. Not sure if it's just in the right drinking window, or maybe just a bit of bottle variation, but this wine is so delightful with fantastic nose, great on the palate, fully integrated and a long lingering finish that just leads you back for another sip.

PNP. This one has faded a good bit. Not sure if some decanting might liven it up, but on this night it seemed to be well over the hill. Still drinkable, but nothing memorable. Will drink my last two bottles sooner than later, and try 30 - 60 minutes in a decanter.

Simply everything I look for in a bottle of wine. This was the last of a 6 bottle lot, and was by far the best. Nose, taste, finish, mouth feel, balance, smooth and just amazing. Ethereal.

Drank as part of a 12+ bottle dinner party. This wine hit on all cylinders: nose, palate and finish. Very well balanced, this was among the very best of the night with several of the group having it as their WOTN.

In a very good drinking window right now. This was part of a 10+ bottle dinner party with a strong line up. A good representation of a Napa Cab. Not as complex as others in the lineup, but held it's own in the middle of the pack.

Fantastic wine. Nose of dark berries and deep aromas that speak to the terroir. The nose actually under delivers compared to the palate. Broad, lucious, and mouth-coating on the first taste. The finish is the best part of this wine. It just goes on and on and on. I'm just sorry I didn't buy more.

In a perfect drinking window right now. The nose and palate are both full of the secondary flavors that I find so interesting in aged Bordeaux. The earthy, tobacco, and leather notes but still allowing the fruit some room. Drink it if you have it, as I think it has peaked.

Still lively at 16 yrs old. Red fruits still presenting with a bit more tartness that I expected. The coloring is starting to brown, and show it's age more so than the palate. Drank side by side with an '07 St. Emilion, and the rimming was significantly different.

4/3/2019 - RedRedMoreRed wrote: 89 points

Excellent nose upon opening. This was drank along with a 2014 Insignia as part of a mini verticle. As expected the '14 was much more dominate on the nose and had much more fruit on the palate. This '11 held it's own, given the challenges that vinters faced with valley fruit this vintage, but it still failed to quite match the '14.

Dark fruit still fully evident, but the wine has reach full maturity. In fact, it may just be starting to head over the hill. Rich mouth feel, fully integrated tannins, and smooth as can be. Very long finish that just lingers. Sorry that I only have two left. (drank from a 375, so 750's may not be quite as advanced, YMMV)

2013 Kuleto Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley more

3/8/2019 - RedRedMoreRed Likes this wine: 88 points

Decanted for 90 minutes, then served with grilled Ribeyes. The aromas were amazing, however on the palate the tannins are still tightly wound, hiding some of the fruit promised by the nose.

It did get better with steak, but need much more time before reaching it's best. This is a similar trend I'm finding with the Napa 2013's. Looks like this vintage will be very long lived. I'll be giving these another 2 to 3 years before trying again.

Drank back to back vs a 1999 Sarget de Gruaud Larose. It lacked in every aspect. Nose, palate and finish. Nothing of note stood out for me on this wine, either good or bad. It was just ok. Many other bottles for this price point that deliver more.

Bought this bottle to try while reloading on the 2005's. It was good, but definitely not up to the 2005. Nice bordeaux characteristics, but just missing a little at each step including the front end, mid palate and finish.
