8/2/2020 - thierrynz wrote: NRConsumed over two days and much better on second day. On opening the first day (pop and pour), the wine has plenty of red fruit and a pungent acidity. It is slightly dishevelled. On palate, there is lovely sweet and concentrated red fruit with plenty of iron and savouriness. It needs plenty of air to achieve integration. This is always made in a slightly oxidative style and tends to be approachable reasonably early (but can last a long time as proven by a 1967 bottle a few years ago). On the second day, that pungent acidity has integrated given the wine a clear and persistent frame. There's plenty of weight on fruit and the terroir comes across more clearly. Decanting highly recommended. |

8/2/2020 - thierrynz wrote: NRServed at 12 degrees celsius. Brilliant colour: lightest touch of hay and green hue. Immediately expressive with white and yellow florals (acacia and lemon-tree blossom), citric lift and precision and with a charming sweetness which continues on palate. Well-balanced in the mouth with framing acidity which gives the wine length and precision in addition to delicious lemon, there is yellow orchard fruit and a touch of nuttiness. The texture of the wine shows some honeyed character. It is showing the first subtle signs of secondary developments. It has balance and elegance. No hurry but the wine delivers already enormous pleasure. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

1/20/2018 - thierrynz wrote: NRFrom a supposedly weaker vintage emerges this beautifully aromatic and balanced wine. Great detail and length; pure, complex and resolved. Another illustration of the producer's talents and the fact that unheralded vintages can produce great wines in the right hands. |

9/18/2017 - thierrynz wrote: NRGood mealy/biscuity complexity on the nose; interesting lemon character, fresh and dry red fruits. Reasonably broad and rich on palate. Dosage seems a bit high and clashes with the slightly bitter and almost metallic finish. Others were kinder. |

9/16/2017 - thierrynz wrote: NROff-vintage? This is magnificent. Complex aromas combining fruit (cherries and plums), fresh mint, roses, and a dark and savoury character. Beautiful sweetness of fruit on the palate: it's both light and powerful. Fine-grained tannins, very long and expressive. However this is not a wine which is striking by the sum of its parts but by its harmony. It is already a complex and utterly beguiling wine. |

5/8/2017 - thierrynz wrote: NRQuite dark. Obvious and quite intrusive stem character very much in need of integration. There is good fruit hereq, it's quite dark and savoury. The aromas are in fruit of integration. It's quite weighty but lacking elegance at this point. |

4/1/2017 - thierrynz wrote: NRInitially a bit of a worry on this as it seemed quite advanced in colour, aromas and in the mouth. I would not go as far as to say that this was too advanced and certainly showing development. These wines can sometimes show maturity but then plateau or even gain in balance and complexity. With food, this was actually very good. |

9/18/2016 - thierrynz wrote: NRClearly destined to be a great wine: for now this is a bit shy on bouquet; the fruit is dark, brooding and there some hints of iron and truffles. On palate this tight but the core of rich and structured fruit is obvious. While this is very young, the class is all there. |

6/19/2014 - thierrynz wrote: NRDark roses, dark cherries. Very fragrant. Plenty of fruit sweetness, red cherries and cherry preserve. But also plenty of grainy tannins at the back. Has the Vietti silkiness on the palate and relatively restrained for the vintage. Very approachable. |

12/7/2015 - thierrynz wrote: NRA 2005 that is starting to open. The wine shows show some colour development but its core its quite deep. Expressive and typical of its origins with lifted red fruit, beautiful aromatics and some sous-bois. Red cherries in the mouth with a nice mineral cut. Mid-weight and quite long with good structure. Potel can be a bit uneven but this is very good. |

10/22/2015 - thierrynz Does not like this wine: NRVisited estate last June and I was not impressed by the aggressive oak treatment here. This was a chance to see if the oak ultimately integrates; based on this one bottle, the answer is no. This is an oak monster. Not my style. |

4/28/2015 - thierrynz Likes this wine: NRDeep and dense core: a baby. Restrained and beautifully balanced aromas of truffle, fragrant red berries, savoury notes. The striking dimension of this wine is the perfectly pure floral and fragrant aromas. Plenty of fruit in the mouth with fine tannins which make the wine deceptively approachable. This is has concentration and finesse and plenty of subtle structure in which to expand. This is infanticide but I have no regrets! A great wine is always there even in its youth. |
