Beautiful salmon color. Dry, with raspberries, strawberries and a little note of violet and a citrusy finish.

Richard Nixon once said, "Only if you have been in the deepest valley, can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain".
-- That is where I am now. In the darkest recesses of despair, thanks to Mumm Brut Prestige. This last week I've had a lot of fantastic Champagne (and even some good sparkling wines from France), but thought I would try something different. How can Mumm get away with putting out such utter crap? It makes me mad.

The nose is decent. Candied pears and a rich aroma, but when you put it in your mouth, that's when it falls apart. Some red plum, though for the most part, Disjointed and a severe taste of Alka-Seltzer. I don't think even a dose of St. Germain can save this. Pitiful.

Lyle's dinner at Melisse, Santa Monica. Color: dark blood marrow. One of the most beautiful noses I've experienced... fragrant, expressive and continued changing. I could have smelled this wine the whole night. On first take: dried flowers, freeze-dried strawberries, mushrooms and au jus. Nose kept changing... old paperback books, leather, more mushrooms and meat drippings. Good acid, dark fruit, sleek in texture with some stemminess. A dark, brooding and muscular but graceful wine. An extremely generous surprise from our visiting friend.

Brought this for Lylepalooza. Disgorged Dec '08. Color: Dark golden yellow. Aromas of roasted chestnuts, bread and rhubarb. Rich tasting, orange blossom honey, Brioche, sherry qualities, reminiscent of a Vin Jaune. Savory. Would say this was an older wine if I didn't know better. A penetrating wine.

Had over a 2-day period. Still a lovely light salmon hue. Some honeydew melon on the nose. Taste: Faded fruit (melon) and creamy, crisp but high-toned alcohol... a shadow of itself from last year when it was dazzling and vibrant. Held on to the 08 Tempier and drank a year later and same thing happened. Delicious wines, but best drank when young.

Thoroughly enjoying this. Had over a course of two days. Color: yellow-gold. Nose: Rich. Some toast, cognac, almonds. Taste: Tart Granny Smith green apple skin and Red Delicious apple pulp. More richness on the palate, cognac again and a little yeast with good acidity played out. Had some NV Bollinger earlier today, and this reminded me a lot of that!

Absolutely charming. First time having this grape: Trepat. Color: Clear, rosy salmon. Nose: Carnations, red berry. Palate: Very crisp, with a fruit presence that says, "look at me!"... lots of wild strawberries and raspberries. Kind of like a Bugey de Cerdon, but dry. A very good buy for $14. Would be nice to keep this on hand.

Clear, Dark in appearance. Taste: White pepper and raspberries. Surprisingly good acid. Light-bodied. Evaporating finish. I enjoyed this better than the other Cru Beaujolais I've had this season (this is my 4th?)... Still looking for 'the one' I'll want to buy cases of, but found this well-made and very enjoyable.

Lt-Medium body, Lovely nose of saddle leather, dusty roses and black pepper. Thoroughly enjoying the taste. Some dark red fruit, earthy with a teensy bit of bittersweet choc . Flavors coming in layers. Would love to have this with food next time. A delicious, nicely balanced and interesting wine.

Had this with calamari and cod from the local fish market.

Light-golden color with the faintest bit of spritz. Smelling a sea salt briny goodness, and lemon. Good acid! If I had to describe this wine in one word: Exhilarating. Tasting lemon, sea water, peach pit, and on the finish: more lemon with a kind of cheddar (?). Re-tasted on the 3rd day and still drinking well. Love this. An extremely interesting wine which I don't think I'll tire from.

Am enjoying and reflecting over the 2003 Bressan Verduzzo. Color: clear, yellow gold. Getting a waxiness on the nose, also a faint touch of kerosene, and sea shells. Finally pinned down that this wine smells of Marcona Almonds. Also the taste reminds me of Marcona Almonds... with some slight lemon, a hint of stone fruit, sea salt and nettle. Good acid. A highly aromatic and complex wine.

First impression: Pears on the nose, and green apple/fresh-cut pear on the palate. Great minerality. Upon next try, still with pear aromas, but tasting lime and minerals. Good acidity. The wine is changing, pear aroma going away, sea water and lime aromas taking over, followed by more lime and mineral on the palate. A solid wine, but may not be for everyone...citrus and sea water is dominating. Checking back an hour later: Pears are back (faintly).

Clear pale lemon in color. Nose: Clean, medium intensity with aromas of orange blossom, marzipan and fresh baked bread. Also getting something like tangerine skin. A dry wine with low-medium acidity, light-bodied with a citrus and spice to the flavor. The Chenin is distinguishable in the finish. A very enjoyable wine. Low alcohol. Paid $23. A unique and good value sparkler.

A deep, rich wine with tons of earth and blackberries, some tar, and licorice. Close your eyes, and you are outside, in the dark, stepping on fall leaves and smelling damp soil. I swear I could taste this wine for 20 minutes after. Gorgeous.
