2014 Christopher Tynan Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines Meleagris Gallopavo

Best wine I’ve ever had,...hands down....Extraordinarily viscous, rich and full Napa cab. After a full 24 hour slow ox in my cellar this beast was just starting to open up, it still had mouth puckering tannins, but incredible depth and length, extraordinary power, layers of flavor, and undeniable X factor. All I can say is WOW!

Hard to add more descriptors and superlatives to the preceding reviews. One of the best wines I've had. Tremendous sense of place and style. Very good now, continuing upside over next 5+ years. Looking forward to popping a 2013 for comparison.

15.4% abv. Dark garnet plum color. Slow red staining of tears. Incredible nose with loads of berries, blackberry bush, loamy earth, eucalyptus, sense some heat but to be expected with high alc. Full in mouth, very silky smooth with fine grained tannins. Finish that lasts minutes. Blackberry and raspberry coulis, spice box, dark chocolate, cherry black tea, California dirt. An extraordinary wine that has decade+ ahead but fine to drink now with 2hr decant.

15% abv. Light yellow gold color, flecks of green. Beautiful full nose of tropical fruit, lemon, mandarin peel, straw, gravel. Very viscous and leggy in glass. Full in mouth: butter, pineapple, lemon pound cake, brioche, closes with almond. Layered, complex, very long finish, drink now with decant; do not serve too cold; can hold for 5+ yrs.

15.1% abv. Dark garnet plum color, not quite clear. Long slow red staining of tears. Nose a little cloying due to youth, blackberry coulis, pencil shavings, white chocolate, California dirt. Thick and unctuous in mouth, teeth coating, fine tannins, berry pie (with the crust), cocoa, virgin olive oil (my wife) creme caramel, and hint of dark banana bread (in a good way). Finishes very long. Can’t wait to see this develop over the years.

Drank at Eddie V’s, Houston. Great bottle. Actually tightened up a bit over 2 hours. Long, Long finish. Perfumed, layered flavor profile. Too many superlatives to list. Despite the high alcohol and concentration, this is a lithe and balanced wine with incredible precision, and doesn’t finish overly sweet like so many other CA wines of this bracket. Decades ahead.

15.1% abv. Dark purple, black core. Consumed over 2 nights. Massive wine, rich mouthfeel, showed more heat on night 2 but still very enjoyable. Dark sweet cherries, chocolate covered blueberries, licorice, velvet tannins, crushed rocks, finishes sweet and long. This is hedonistic modern Cali cab. Expect it to drink well for next 15 years but awesome now.

14.9% abv. Dark garnet purple, clear. Light staining of tears. Very, very generous nose of black and red fruits, rose garden (including tilled wet soil), anise, pencil shavings. Med plus weight, silky smooth in mouth with precision through mid palate and fine grained tannins that leave you going back for more and more. Finishes extremely long with layers of blackberries, blue berries, dark cocoa, coffee cake, and minerality that is off the charts. Exceptional wine with long life ahead. Classy wine. Bravo

15.2% abv. Light gold, green tinge color. Viscous in glass. Pineapple, lemon, brioche, peat, honeyed beeswax on nose. Full textured mouthfeel. Holy !!! the attack and palate are extraordinary. Zippy acid, mouthcoating tannins, tropical fruit, lemon lime, coconut, Marcona almonds, orange oil, salmon roe. Finishes dry and very long. Haven’t had many Chardonnays like this one. Serve slightly chilled. Has many great years ahead.

14.9% abv. Dark purple, black core, glass staining purple tears. Tinge of heat on nose, deep dark fruit on nose, black cherry, damp earth, licorice. Med plus weight, mouthfeel. Surprisingly this was very open on pnp and contracted into grainier, tannic phase after an hour. Quite showy and long with blackberries, black licorice, truffles, no2 pencil, peppery spices; finish lasts over a minute, as do the tannins in your gums. Should go a couple of decades, or if opening now suggest day long decant. Very, very good. Thanks for the tip AG.

Improved since last bottle opened and drinking very well: pronounced orange and ginger notes this time. Plenty of lemon, marzipan, almonds as before, but revealing more layers and nuances. Damn fine Chardonnay.

12.5% abv. Deep gold color. May be just a better bottle tonight, or this wine is hitting its stride, but this was contender for one of the best bottles of wine I’ve ever had. Served cool. Super rich and luscious sweet honeyed fruit that is full throttle but held back enough by acidity to reign it in before it goes off the rails. Botrytis notes a little one dimensional today - expect they’ll develop into funky sweet truffle over time. More citrus, Asian fruits vs tropical - this is serious wine that demands your attention.

14.9% abv. Dark purple color, magenta rim. Purple staining of tears. Alcohol on nose blows off after about 2 min in glass. Oak, black and blue berries, cassis, cinnamon stick, vanilla. Full in mouth, nice acidic lift and fuzzy tannins that cover teeth, gums and tongue, smooth and velvety texture. Very big wine on palate, blueberries, dark chocolate sauce, licorice, then a mid palate minerality kick that starts another series of flavors - wet earth, black tea, coffee cake. 2 min finish! Superb California cab that has decade plus of exceptional drinking.

15.0% abv. Pale gold, slightest hint of green. Long legs in glass. On nose pineapple, peach, quince, butterscotch, fresh cut hay. Full in mouth, decent acidity, fuzzy tannins on front of teeth. Lemon curd, green apple, toasted brioche, caramelized coconut, very long finish. I would wait a few more years to drink next one, wine is putting on weight and I expect added complexity/layers. Very, very exciting and fine wine.

15.0% abv. Drank 1st glass on pnp/chilled - wow, incredible minerality and grip! Light gold color, glass coating staining of tears. Cool temp isn’t best friend - will let this warm up. Again, wow...

Day 2 - minerality and tannins still prominently frame pear, peach, tropical fruits, lemon curd, toasted brioche nicely. Very long, layered finish. Exceptional Chardonnay from Mark Aubert.

Dinner at Murietta's
Fourth wine at group dinner. Palate fatigue setting in, but this was still WOTN for me. This had an hour in decanter before serving. Black/purple in glass. Nose swirls of violets, blue/black fruits, espresso, menthol, oak. Med plus weight in mouth, tannins integrated nicely, sweet core of black fruits, cocoa, creme de cassis, pencil lead, tobacco. Very polished, elegant wine that has tremendous future ahead.

15.4% abv. Ripe styled, concentrated Napa cab but restrained enough not to stray more than a tiptoe into caymus territory. Black and blue fruits, Black Forest cake, bourbon vanilla, oak; dark plum color, slow purple staining of tears, you can detect heat on nose (even after an hour) that hints of powerful wine to come. On pnp it was massive, chalky tannins, chewy mouthfeel. After and hour it has mellowed, with a full sweet finish. This is an excellent example of ripe modern California cab, made from good fruit by accomplished winemaker. Bravo. I may be in minority but I recommend you drink young - not sure this has the stuffing to go decades...

Tannins have softened somewhat: spice-box, dusty cocoa, cherries, Christmas tree. Showing exceptionally well right now - should hold at this level for 3-5 more years. Bravo
