Enticing nose of Granny Smith Apples with loads of slate. Allready nicely balanced and not to primary anymore. On the palate the acidity is buffered by the residual sweetnes in a way which can't be reproduced outside the Mosel region.

Opens up with a nose of green apple and pear. The palate also has apple and pear along with sweet lime. There's a bit of weight to the mouthfeel and some sweetness even though this is trocken. I suspect at least a little bit of residual sugar and also some time on lees for texture.
Acid surprisingly soft for a young Riesling, and given this is entry level stuff on the German hierarchy I suspect this is a drink sooner than later prospect, though I think should be good for another 3-5 years.

18 tends to have more power and sugar. but not here. 11 % alc and a hammer freshness to it. slate soiced, red apple, peach touch. top lenght. drink or hold

nice Kabinett with a playful sweet palate.developed to a more complex wine over 3 days.impressive how just 8 % alc can be so intense on the palate.top lenght.

really like that wine but i think i still will prefer dry rieslig in the future.

'Sagenhaft' as the Germans say... this wine was spectacular.
In fact one of the best dry Mosels I've ever had.
Fruits, clarity, focus, perfect balance, beautiful minerality and endless elegance. I'd just advise anyone to seek this out and try it. 14 EUR is no match for that quality.

Still very young and at the moment there is some sugar-acid imbalance. But I sense this will be allright in a few years time. Made in a nice and ripe, rich style, good length.

Grab Bag Tasting @ my place (Netherlands): Pale colour. Soft notes of springflowers, citrusfruit (lemon and lime). Stimulating levels of acid, which is not aggressive or obtrusive. Gooseberries and also lush exotic impressions. Slightly heady and spicy now. A promise for the future. Try again in 1 year. 17/20

Gault Millau has heaped a lot of praise on Ansgar Clüsserath in the past few years, and this is for good reason in my view.

They have a very clear and distinct kind of winemaking, which is nicely reflected by the art-nouveau style image on their bottles.

Indeed these wines are through and through Jugendstil: fragile, gracious and playful at once.

The wine in question is a good example of this: it's a lean, clean, highly tasty and seducive juice; not too much residual sugar and some excellent acidity nicely balancing each other out.

For some reason I think though that this will not improve much going forward and I'd guess its peak will be in H2 2018 / H1 2019. But that may be wrong, I don't have the longitudinal experince with the Ansgar wines to really tell.

Anyway, this is excellent stuff and highly recommended, especially for the price of 10-ish EUR that it costs at the winery.

This is really good.
Great freshness, great balance, content, acidity, minerality, all there.

And yet it's fragiile!

Wonderful stuff. 88p in conservatively judged (i.e. weaker moments), I'll need to test further and then it might gravitate towrads more 90-ish.

Classy fun, anyway.

This is the feinherb i.e. off-dry.

And it is delicious; perfect balance, fruity, bit of minerality, natural feel.

Difficult to stop; possible even more than 88p.

Disclosure II. We’ve been tasting their 2015 wines in autumn 2016, in the winery, and had a very favorable impression; high quality across the board, very clear and attractive style through and through.

But: surprisingly, the Steinreich, which tends to be among the best dry Spätlese-s in the entire Mosel, was quite unimpressive. Still I bought some bottles to see how it develops.

And one of those was opened yesterday.

The result is alas similar: spotless but somehow unexciting and far away from some magnificent earlier vintages.

Of course it is still young, and I haven’t given up hope that it will get there in 1-3 years.

For now, not special at all.

A little disappointing, although that is party because I've had so many amazing Mosel wines recently.

On the positive, this Auslese is quite well balanced and well drinkable; no trace of too much thickness there.

It is carryed by a fairly good mixture of dried figs/date through the middle of the palate, and acidity that adds width.

Nevertheless I still have my complaints (again, compared with some stunning stuff tasted recently), namely, it is a bit flat, unexciting and trivial.

I'd need yet more acidity and more tension and structure to reach higher rating.

All in all enjoyable but clearly below my expectation both for an Auslese from this fine winemaker and from a 21-EUR-wine
