2/6/2022 - ilcalmo wrote: 88 pointsExtremely pleasant, and a steal at $10. Strawberry palate with some nice oiliness and good acidity. Not rated higher because there isn't much complexity here, but I'll happily be buying more of this. |

4/18/2022 - ilcalmo wrote: 89 pointsSurprisingly good, as I'm somewhat agnostic on Grenache wines. Very juicy without being overdone, nice tannins, and the usual herbs you get in Rhone wines. One of the better Grenache-based Cotes du Rhone I can remember having. |

3/26/2022 - ilcalmo wrote: NRNot rating because I'm unsure whether this wine was flawed or just unbalanced. Usual Barbera characteristics of cherry fruit, herbs, some floral components and good acidity, but all overshadowed by an iron note that threw everything out of whack. Didn't go away with air either, which is too bad because otherwise I would have quite liked this wine. |

12/12/2021 - ilcalmo wrote: 88 pointsAn amazing buy for $14. I think it's earlier-drinking than the other taster, but I agree that this tastes like actual Bordeaux. A nice core of dark fruit with a little Bordeaux secondary character around the edges. Won't blow your mind, but a real value as a weeknight wine. |

6/17/2021 - ilcalmo wrote: 88 pointsA standard Oregon pinot noir. Tart cherry, some herbs, decent acidity and finish, but nothing to write home about. In the area of budget OR pinot, A to Z is a little cheaper, and I think I like it a bit better. |

6/17/2021 - ilcalmo wrote: 86 pointsTannins ahoy! Not only on the first day, but on the second, the rough tannins kept me from tasting much of the wine. On the third day, the tannins had finally receded enough that I could taste the rest of the wine, and it was actually kind of nice. Good fruit with some herbal nuances, though the tannins were still kind of rough. I'm not sure I'd age it though, as I suspect the fruit might die before the tannins. |

4/23/2022 - ilcalmo wrote: 90 pointsVery good, but quite young. Formidable tannic structure gives way to pinot fruit back with the usual funk but a slightly more Italian herbal profile. Needs time or a meal right now. |

1/30/2022 - ilcalmo wrote: 88 pointsGood in a surprising way. From the hefty bottle I expected something oaky, boozy, or overextracted, and this wine is none of those things. Instead, it has nice full red fruit and some fairly formidable (but not obnoxious) tannins, along with some herbs that made me think of a more Italian style. Not the most complex wine, but a pleasurable accompaniment to dinner. |

2/15/2022 - ilcalmo wrote: 83 pointsA little disappointing. On day 1, simple fruit with a green bell pepper note and not much complexity. From day 2 onwards, it only became flabbier and less distinct. I know you can only expect so much from budget Bordeaux but I've had much better for the same price. |

5/26/2021 - ilcalmo wrote: 86 pointsOn the nose, fairly typical with sour cherry and some herbs. A deeper purple color than expected for the varietal, which ended up indicating the palate. Tastes somewhat overextracted and kind of grapey, with less acidity than I expected. It maintains some tannic structure and finishes more classically, but I don't know I would have guessed this as Barbera blind. |

5/22/2022 - ilcalmo wrote: 89 pointsBlack fruit and lots of herbal notes. Green components typical to the grape manifest more like tea here than vegetables. Definitely needs food and still has formidable tannins. A consistently interesting wine whose harsh finish holds it back from being totally pleasurable. |

5/15/2016 - ilcalmo wrote: 90 pointsA very pleasant surprise. This wine has absolutely beautiful pear that balances what would otherwise be aggressive minerality and a bit of spiciness. This wine also has excellent (though not over-the-top) acidity, and naturally goes quite well with food. This isn't the most complex wine, but it has some of the purest fruit I've tasted, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. |

8/13/2021 - ilcalmo wrote: 86 pointsThis was a strange one. An extremely peppery, funky nose that didn't go away as the night wore on. On the palate it wasn't that extreme, but it had an acidic, almost grapefruity edge that made some guess it as burgundy blind, along with a dose of funk and spice and not enough fruit to back it up. Maybe this will get better with age, but extremely awkward right now. |

11/17/2015 - ilcalmo wrote: NRSurprisingly good consumed over two nights, the second two days after the first. I originally got it as something inexpensive to use in a ragu and had a little before dinner. Then, two nights later (when it stood up surprisingly well) I had it with a meal. This has nice fruit coupled with excellent minerality and acidity, and it goes well with food, which turns down the minerality a bit and brings the fruit more forward. I don't want to make this sound more exalted than it is, but at the price I paid ($11) I would happily buy this again as a wine with real character that will ably accompany food. |

2014 Domaine Les Capréoles Régnié DiaclaseGamay more |
4/25/2016 - ilcalmo wrote: 90 pointsActually consumed over three nights, and it held up over all of them. Like all Gamay of quality, it needs time to open and the acidity is too aggressive without food, and it would probably benefit from a little age. That said, I've been trying a few Gamay's recently, and I think this is the best. The cherry fruit is a little fuller and lusher than other examples, and with air the requisite herbs and flowers appear to a greater degree and with greater integration than other examples I've had recently. Also, the acidity, while still high, is actually better integrated already than other young examples I've had, and the progress over the evenings suggest it is an aspect that will integrate further with age. I'm glad I have another bottle of this, and I expect it to become more distinguished with a couple of years. |
