Raspberry and dark fruits dominate the aromas with ripe cherry and earth in the background. Balanced, velvety texture and integrated acidity.

Very pleasant medium bodied wine. Red apples on the nose, balanced and smooth on the palate, clean finish. No particular depth but definitely enjoyed by all.

3.5+/5 shared with Kurt and Karen for a Kurt stop by, beautiful (fine grain) tannins and perfect tannin level, fruit intensity at a lower level, a bit on the thin side mid palate, enjoyable fruit flavor. Definite buy again at this level. Surprisingly good Tempranillo for the U.S.

Dark, almost opaque in color with purple some hints of cola. Cool, crushed red fruits with cranberry jam on the nose. Rich, intense mouthfeel with chocolate and red fruit notes, backed by pronounced tannins. Just a touch of bitterness on the very long finish.

Nice garnet-purple in color. Sour cherry, blood orange, light cocoa powder, and a hint of cranberry on the nose. Entry of tart red fruits, immediately followed by pronounced tannins and noticeable acidity. There are some unrefined sugars also present on the palate. Rich, full-bodied with the acidity lingering all the way through the long finish.

This has a lighter red berry flavor but still high tannins. Cherry, cranberry, so light leather but not too smokey on my palate. Very drinkable now. Might be good with a thinly sliced steak or pork.

This one didn't leave too much of an impression. Texture is a little grainy, purple-fruited and fairly bright. Finishes with an earthy/savory impression.

Dark cherry, muddy earthy notes, finishes with earthy chalk. Not bad but flavors all a mess at this point in the wine's development. No hint of the raspberry touted on the bottle's back label.

Tannins on the first taste, dissipates some over time. Smoke and leather, and also the taste of burnt rubber on a road after someone peels out. Overripe blackberrries picked and eaten in hot sun. Ends shorter than expected with some astringent notes.

19% abv. From a recent auction "mystery pack" of well-stored Herb Farm collection wines.
It's dark, dense sweet wine. In good shape at this age. I'm not really a sweet wine drinker, so it's hard to evaluate. I'd rather spend my "alcohol calories" on table wine, but my mother-in-law enjoys the sweetness, so I like to have a few of these kind of wines around.

Slightly "musty" was the first thing that stood out, but that dissipated with more air. Pretty well-balanced, with a little edge toward the acidic side. Seemed to be low oak with good varietal character, though I haven't had enough varietal Petit Verdot to be certain of this. In any case, the flavor profile seemed to be that of a blending grape variety as it wasn't really that interesting or captivating but did have a Bordeaux-ish feel to it. Depth of flavor was good, not great, and it finished a little short. Overall, this seemed to be in good shape for its age and was an interesting drink that paired pretty well with Knackwurst and tater tots with Broccoli.

Very similar to the 2005 from a few months ago - which is to say, pretty good! Fully integrated and seamless, with fleshy mouthfeel and exhibiting good Dolcetto character. Could've used a touch more acidity, but overall, this was very enjoyable and went really well with Sauerkraut, Knoedel, and Kassler schinken.

Slightly oxidized, unfortunately. Cork looked pristine, barely stained a quarter inch from the bottom.

14 years after harvest and following decanting, this remains a beautiful wine. Decanting mellows slightly harsh tanins and leaves a bold wine that pairs well with fresh meat.

13.9% abv. Auction mystery pack bottle. Cork was a little soft but in very good shape with very little staining up and it came out with a waiter's corkscrew. No bricking.
This was in great shape. Pleasing ripe core of fruit, but not overripe, with very good depth and length. Unfiltered, fleshy mouthfeel. Very slight barnyard-y brett note, but not too distracting. Clear varietal character as well (I've been drinking quite a bit of Dolcetto d'Alba recently). Little overt oak influence. No sign of drying out - this can go much longer with proper storage conditions. Really enjoyed this.
