11/11/2009 - Paul S wrote: 87 pointsCeretto wine dinner with Federico ceretto (Osvaldo Ristorante Italiano, Maxwell Chambers): Started out pleasantly, but became rather rough as it warmed up in the glass. Very interesting though - a Blanc de Noirs, made solely out of Pinot Noir grapes. Methode Classico as well, although I do not think many people would confuse this for a Champagne. Blended from grapes from the 1997 and 1998 vintage, this showed some maturity, with slightly lower bead, an evolved nose of earthm slightly savoury meat, kumquats and brown apples. Attack on the palate was pleasant, with lots of dusky cherry and apple fruit and some bittersweet mineral. Simple, but pretty nice. It sort of fell apart past the midpalate though, taking on a sweet maraschino tone and coming just a little unstitched, with a rough feel of mineral and slightly bitter orange peel. All in all though, interesting and far from undrinkable. |

Pale yellow colour with flecks of green-gold. Aromas of walnuts, apple, pear, bread dough, citrus rind, white flowers. Lively beads of bubbles. Medium-bodied, creamy in the mouth, showing apple, pear, lemon, and biscuit. Moderate finish, ~20-25s. |
