I really like this wine. It is classic Gevrey - at the typical Villages level. It is on the unrefined, rustic side of the appellation; it has the rough edges that tends to go away with PC and GC wines. Nose has a lot of dark sour cherry, woodsy, earthy, anise, mushroomy. Palate has strong acid, some still unresolved tannins, mineral. Sour cherry and forest floor, anise. Finish long. This is precisely what I expected, and wanted, the wine to be. Not modern in any way - and that makes me so very happy. Worked wonders with a morel risotto.

Interesting for sure and had a window of about 1 hour from opening where it showed well, then went downhill from there. Tea, rusty nail, tertiary flavours. Would be confused with an aged barolo easily.

Stunning nose with cherries that immediately jumps out of the glass, later a lot of spices. Intense and medium to full bodied with black cherries, minerals and perhaps darker fruits ending in a long finish. It has some power but the elegance of the cherrie flavors are superb. A charming Charmes and for me a favourite kind of wine.

Grands Jours de Bourgogne - 2022 Clos Vougoet (Chateau de Clos Vougeot): Very ripe wine with some pruney notes. A second bottle was a little more balanced, but still, I liked this the least of the three due to its very ripe character. I clearly preferred the 2021 and 2022 today.

Grands Jours de Bourgogne - 2022 Clos Vougoet (Chateau de Clos Vougeot): The lighter vintage created a very good wine here. Already expressive and attractive to drink with some aeration, very good freshness. They got this vintage right. The most approachable wine, but I would still give this a 3-4 more years in bottle

100% Pinot Noir from a 0,42-hectare parcel in Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin. Typically aged for 18 months in new oak barrels. 13,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Quite translucent and somewhat evolved pomegranate-red color with a slightly maroon hue. The nose feels dark-toned and slightly sweetish with aromas of spicy Pinosity, some dark forest fruit tones, a little bit of dried flowers, light meaty nuances, a hint of juicy black cherry and a faint touch of smoke. The wine feels ripe yet very firm and intense on the palate with a medium body and intense flavors of meaty umami, some sweet-toned dark fruits, a little bit of sweet toasty oak, light earthy nuances, a hint of tobacco and a touch of crunchy dark berries. The structure relies mostly on the fresh, bright acidity as the tannins feel quite supple and gentle. The finish is long, nuanced and slightly grippy with an intense, sweet-savory aftertaste of dark forest fruits, some savory notes of meaty umami, a little bit of ripe black cherry, light nuances of loose pouch tobacco, a hint of dried flowers and a touch of earthy Pinosity.

A sophisticated, harmonious and wonderfully focused Mazis-Chambertin. The wine carries its new oak influence surprisingly well, although the toasty nuances punch through at times, making the wine feel a bit polished and anonymous. However, based on the freshness, the intensity of those vibrant fruit flavors and still relatively youthful overall profile, I have a feeling this wine can still develop further and pick up some additional finesse as it ages. While not the most distinguished red Grand Cru Burg, this was a lovely and very balanced effort all the same. Maybe not entirely worth the 80€, at which the wine was purchased, but not a rip-off, either.

DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/19/2024-3/20/2024 (Beaune): Walkaround tasting with producers. Bigger and richer with nearly as much balance, this is a big step up over Charmes-Chambertin. Complex black cherry and berry with even some red cherry hints, the meaty gaminess stands out here. Lots of Grand Cru density, this will reward patience as some softening is needed, 93-95 point potential, 2030 forward.

A relatively shy reserved nose even 3 hours post decant; classically structured, slightly more tannic than the ‘08 Laurent Roche tasted prior; similarly silky palate though. Spherical with no rough edges; black cherry on the finish; classy and elegant. 93+

Pop and pour - when still cellar temp, immediate and glorious nose of blood, game meat and pepper. Leafy underbrush. On the palate at first, dark red fruits. Crisp acids when cool. As it warms it becomes more generous. Excellent, but never great. A little weak in the midpalate. Great blackberry fruit comes forward. Bit of star anise and Earl Grey tea. Nice fresh acids. Medium finish. If served blind, would likely guess 1er Cru Gevrey. Not obviously Grand Cru weight. But still an excellent wine.

This wine surprised me, as for a Chambertin, I expected a powerful and bold wine. Instead, Tortochot has made an extremely elegant and ethereal Pinot, which blind I would have said to be a Chambolle. Lot's of red cherry and cranberry, this is easy to drink and as per past reviews, I'd say ready now rather than holding for the long term. A very nice wine but I deduct some points for this not being the character of a proper Chambertin.

Served with A5 wagu beef

Nose is complex with notes of secondary spice notes that are soft and bring you back for more. Really soft and silky notes. A joy to smell. Can’t wait to taste.
Palate is like silk. Soft, sensuous, and very long.

The pairing is ideal. The buttery fat from the meat plays off the flavor of the wine ideally.

Would buy again

From 375: dull garnet color; muted nose of soft diffuse red wine; same sort of palate; not dead, but nothing here to arouse much interest let alone real joy. Still certainly drinkable and not unpleasant. No technical flaws nor “defective” but simply didn’t age well. Not a great vintage.
