30 minute decant. Medium ruby, fruity on the nose, raspberries and cranberries, cedar, minerals. Medium body, dry, bright acidity, lemons, cranberries, soft tannins. Nice balance, but especially crisp. Decent length with a slightly warm finish. Thoroughly enjoyable Italian red.

Medium ruby in appearance. Red cherry, black currant with oak and tobacco. Medium bodied, smooth tannin, light acidity with a tint of savouriness. There is a freshness in its taste. Good to drink now.

Dalla Terra Portfolio tasting (Nostrana, Portland OR): There is a distinct toasty note that strikes right off the bat but it peels back into tones of red cherries, licorice, violets, raspberries, herbs, vanilla beans, and some spice notes. There is a distinct oak note, but it isn't overwhelming. The Full bodied feel is a forward with tart, medium+ acidity and slightly coarse, medium+ tannins. This didn't really feel like it was a proper step up from the regular Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It just shows off a bit of a heavier side, but it loses some charm in the process.

Dalla Terra Portfolio tasting (Nostrana, Portland OR): The nose is fresh and upfront with raspberries, plums, red cherries, rose petals, spice notes, and some tobacco tones. There is good balance to the nose but it does lack some depth. The Medium bodied feel is fresh and lively with tart, medium+ acidity and chalky, medium tannins. The tannins are a little coarse and the lack of depth from the nose is present on the palate. Still, this is a solid value wine for when you want some solid to go with some red sauce.

I've been a fan of this producer's more expensive Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Superiore Spelt, so it was interesting to try this beside that wine.

The nose is a little reticent but offers redcurrants and quite a strong minerality and perhaps a little alcohol heat (this is a 13.5% wine). The palate is nicely balanced, sweet (but not cloying) redcurrants, just a touch of tannin, a a hint of acidity that keeps the finish clean. The whole thing is rather straightforward and perhaps a little thin, but when chilled this is would be a decent drink on a hot summer day.

(The Spelt by comparison has a lot more weight and complexity)

At ~US$12 I can see getting some of these in the summer, but for all year drinking, particularly with food I'll stick with the Spelt (which is about US$18).

Dalla Terra Portfolio tasting (Nostrana, Portland OR): The nose is fresh and vibrant with tones of almonds, pears, green apples, saline, white fruits, and some white flowers. There is good complexity, but it lacks a fair bit of depth as the tones more sit on the surface. The Medium bodied feel is fresh and balanced with tart, medium+ acidity. The lack of depth from the nose carries through on the palate and the finish is a little clipped. This is a pretty easy drinking and fresh wine for what it is and delivers for under-$20.

I enjoyed the previous two vintages of this wine, although the 2021 slightly less because of some alcohol heat, but the 2022 doesn't have that and is very consistent with the 2020, so I will repeat my note from that:

This is really rather nice and develops complexity with some air.

The nose is sweet, fresh strawberries with some darker red fruit (cherries, redcurrants?). These follow to the palate which is very smooth and finishes on a note of tart red fruit and light tannins.

All in all this is very pleasant and no hint of heat from the 14% alcohol. It works well as a refreshing stand-alone wine when chilled, or, particularly after air and a little warmer, with a variety of light foods.

The bouquet lept from the glass with dark fruits and spices. On the palate, the wine was rich and mouth-filling with good acidity and structure. Built for the long haul.

Light ruby red colour. Ripe strawberries, ripe raspberries and ripe cherries with hints of herbs on the nose. Taste of cherries, ripe red currants, flowers and herbs. Long and structured finish with a well balanced acidity. A rosé that could easily substitute a red wine on a long summer evening together with food. Goes well with lean fish, poultry, light meat or salads.

Medium taste of dark plum, blackberry, blueberry, vanilla, red cherry, tomato and green pepper. Long and dry finish. Light acidity. Light tannins. Medium body. A very good Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Drink now. Goes well with grilled meat, pizza or pasta.

The nose features boysenberry, blackberry, black pepper, licorice, and dried earth. Full bodied with dense, broad tannin and juicy acid that elevates the weight, the structure is nice. Flavors include blackberry, black plum, clay, licorice, and brambly brush. This opened really tight and took an hour or so to begin blossoming. I think this will probably drink best in 2025 or 2026.

Purple core fading to a ruby rim. The scent was a bit reticent but eventually I smelled plum and well-integrated oak with vanilla; the taste was a little more black cherry. Soft and rounded, nicely in balance, could do with a little more power. Finishes fruity with medium length.

Lovely, complex, and refreshing; nose is peaches and pears with a touch of flint and minerals. Mouth is full bodied beginning with nice salinity that yields to Granny Smiths, Asian pears, and honeydew. Balanced acidity appears in the finish along with a pleasant bitterness, adding another layer of interest. Definitely worth the modest coinage.

On nose: notes of warm steel, cigar tobacco and Damson plum skin.
On palate: all above flavours enhanced, in addition to ripe plum fruit, coffee, savoury herb, and a ghost of mesquite charcoal, all offered on a dense, flavourful medium body with present, well integrated acidity , at 8 years of age ....after a 2 hour decant.
A fine example of Montepulciano, with a slightly New World accessibilty ....went perfectly with strip- loin steak and potato salad, this evening...can age easily.

Tension from fruits and bitter elements. I like it.

Rich, almondy peach and pear, wild flower accents. Rounder, fuller, generous texture.

Tasted blind. Tavel-like; dark pinkish red, sharp and herbal, some tannins, but it's an Italian Cerasuolo. Big hit at the table. Apparently available locally for $12.99--BARGAIN! Will definitely be socking some of this away for later.
