2016 Fattoria La Valentina Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Speltmore |
1/8/2021 - eprutter Likes this wine: 84 points30 minute decant. Medium ruby, fruity on the nose, raspberries and cranberries, cedar, minerals. Medium body, dry, bright acidity, lemons, cranberries, soft tannins. Nice balance, but especially crisp. Decent length with a slightly warm finish. Thoroughly enjoyable Italian red. |

3/18/2024 - ACellarCat Likes this wine: 87 pointsMedium ruby in appearance. Red cherry, black currant with oak and tobacco. Medium bodied, smooth tannin, light acidity with a tint of savouriness. There is a freshness in its taste. Good to drink now. |

5/9/2023 - KeithAkers wrote: 89 pointsDalla Terra Portfolio tasting (Nostrana, Portland OR): There is a distinct toasty note that strikes right off the bat but it peels back into tones of red cherries, licorice, violets, raspberries, herbs, vanilla beans, and some spice notes. There is a distinct oak note, but it isn't overwhelming. The Full bodied feel is a forward with tart, medium+ acidity and slightly coarse, medium+ tannins. This didn't really feel like it was a proper step up from the regular Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It just shows off a bit of a heavier side, but it loses some charm in the process. |

5/9/2023 - KeithAkers wrote: 88 pointsDalla Terra Portfolio tasting (Nostrana, Portland OR): The nose is fresh and upfront with raspberries, plums, red cherries, rose petals, spice notes, and some tobacco tones. There is good balance to the nose but it does lack some depth. The Medium bodied feel is fresh and lively with tart, medium+ acidity and chalky, medium tannins. The tannins are a little coarse and the lack of depth from the nose is present on the palate. Still, this is a solid value wine for when you want some solid to go with some red sauce. |

3/10/2024 - Paul852 Likes this wine: 85 pointsI've been a fan of this producer's more expensive Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Superiore Spelt, so it was interesting to try this beside that wine. |

5/9/2023 - KeithAkers wrote: 87 pointsDalla Terra Portfolio tasting (Nostrana, Portland OR): The nose is fresh and vibrant with tones of almonds, pears, green apples, saline, white fruits, and some white flowers. There is good complexity, but it lacks a fair bit of depth as the tones more sit on the surface. The Medium bodied feel is fresh and balanced with tart, medium+ acidity. The lack of depth from the nose carries through on the palate and the finish is a little clipped. This is a pretty easy drinking and fresh wine for what it is and delivers for under-$20. |

2/25/2024 - Paul852 Likes this wine: 89 pointsI enjoyed the previous two vintages of this wine, although the 2021 slightly less because of some alcohol heat, but the 2022 doesn't have that and is very consistent with the 2020, so I will repeat my note from that: |

Long and structured finish with a well balanced acidity. A rosé that could easily substitute a red wine on a long summer evening together with food. Goes well with lean fish, poultry, light meat or salads. |

Drink now. Goes well with grilled meat, pizza or pasta. |

9/7/2023 - goodvitis.com Likes this wine: 91 pointsThe nose features boysenberry, blackberry, black pepper, licorice, and dried earth. Full bodied with dense, broad tannin and juicy acid that elevates the weight, the structure is nice. Flavors include blackberry, black plum, clay, licorice, and brambly brush. This opened really tight and took an hour or so to begin blossoming. I think this will probably drink best in 2025 or 2026. |

9/4/2023 - lazy Likes this wine: 89 pointsPurple core fading to a ruby rim. The scent was a bit reticent but eventually I smelled plum and well-integrated oak with vanilla; the taste was a little more black cherry. Soft and rounded, nicely in balance, could do with a little more power. Finishes fruity with medium length. |

8/6/2023 - Wild Boar Likes this wine: 91 pointsLovely, complex, and refreshing; nose is peaches and pears with a touch of flint and minerals. Mouth is full bodied beginning with nice salinity that yields to Granny Smiths, Asian pears, and honeydew. Balanced acidity appears in the finish along with a pleasant bitterness, adding another layer of interest. Definitely worth the modest coinage. |

6/20/2023 - Neecies Likes this wine: NRTasted blind. Tavel-like; dark pinkish red, sharp and herbal, some tannins, but it's an Italian Cerasuolo. Big hit at the table. Apparently available locally for $12.99--BARGAIN! Will definitely be socking some of this away for later. |
