Better than previous bottle, I think a more vigorous decant this time helped.
Seemed a bit harsh at first with fruit, oak, acid and alcohol all a bit sharp and poking out in diffferent directions, but softened and integrated much better with more time in decanter.
I suspect this wine needs more time to open up than I allowed it.

Strong oak influence, but somewhat lacking in a balance of fruit to carry it.

Stonefruit on the nose while the palate is dominated by intense ripe lemon. A nice lick of vanilla and more noticeable tannin than I usually get from white wine suggests pretty firm oak treatment. Big Chardonnay style but for me needs a bit more fruit prominence and less oak. Felt hot in the mouth with alcohol when allowed to warm up to near room temp. Definitely more enjoyable chilled, has enough flavour intensity that it didn't feel overly muted. Not bad but sadly nothing special.

Some red and black fruit, indistinct but tart, mostly a tertiary wine at this stage. A bit sharp on the tongue, acidity?
A bit meh relative to the previous bottle. PnP and drank over ~90mins with a friend. Enjoyable, maybe needed more of a decant to show better but maybe just showing the relatively low quality of the 07 vintage as this wasn't a great example of mature McLaren Shiraz.

Grapes from McLaren (73%) and Coonawarra (27%). Interesting sourcing because 2014 was a tough vintage. Aromas of blackberry, eucalyptus, vanilla, balsamic and game. Flavours of saline, eucalyptus, black fruits, mild bell peppers, and orange. A watery wine with Medium plus acidity and soft tannins. That 14.5% alcohol kicks in after two glasses 😂. Not bad for $17.

McLaren Vale doesn't come to mind as a Chardonnay region and this wine is probably an example of why.
Solid yellow turning gold at only 6years under screwcap, There's some lemon on the palate and a hint of stonefruit on the nose but the wine is mostly secondary with nuttiness and spice dominating and slight oilyness, I expect it's been firmly oaked and has had full malo.
Not unpleasant, especially with a hard cheese, but I can't imagine that this is what any Chardonnay lover is hoping to open.
That this is the "reserve" offering seems a bit sad, but then maybe the non-reserve might actually be better if it would be more primary with a lighter winemaking influence.

I was punished for my impatience as the first sip on opening seemed hot with alcohol and unbalanced with sourness, but the wine just needed time to breathe...it says on the back of the bottle to decant it so the mistake is all mine 😄
Fast forward 30mins and the wine is still big and potent but now seems really well balanced with ripeness, freshness, weight and structure. There's ripe raspberry with tart red currant fruit, and chocolate and eucalyptus following. The tannins seems soft at first but linger and build.
For a McLaren Vale flagship what surprises me is the crunchy tartness. There's a lot of fruit bombs made in The Vale but this is16 years old and it's lipsmacking and fresh. I think you could drink a lot of this and not get tired of it, I've got the bottle to myself tonight to test that theory 😄

Only the finest 10 barrels qualify for production of Henley which is aged in FR oak for 34 months and over 10 years in bottle. Intense complex aroma of smoky plum jam, leather, old cupboard, medical hints, vanilla, cold cuts, balsamic, smoky cedar. Full body, multilayered with impeccably balanced well integrated high acidity, medium+ velvety tannins and pronounced flavours echoing aroma. Long finish with a touch of mushrooms. Hedonistic and meditative experience.

Still perfect!

Very dark garnet with almost black reflexes.
As soon as opened surprised with an unbelievable freshness with eucalyptus-minty notes.
After half an hour developed leaving place to some dried dates and dark berries marmelade with some tar-hearthy finish.
Loved it! I think it passes its peak already but at the same time I think waiting other 2-3 years for drinking it won't make it any worse that fast.

Had this as 18th bday wine, birth year for my niece, with family.
Much better than the last btl had about 3yrs ago which was flat and dry.
Dark fruit just hanging in, but flavours jumping out if gls.
Some dark berry, aniseed, coffee flavours on the palate
Med weight, and the finish is shortish but just enough.
Depending on cork and cellaring condition should hold for a few yrs. But I'll be drinking my last btl this yr
(Got this 6px after a Merrill reserve vertical wine lunch with Geoff Merrill and Ian Botham, day before 2006/7 brissie ashes test, some stories out of that after the lunch... )

A very solid bottle of Cab. A lot of green pepper and herbs on the nose and the wine is well balanced. Just lacking that extra power and length on the finish to put it over the top but at the price point a very solid wine.
