Smoky, cedary, oaky, dried up, dusty, lacks fruit ... at least it is hiding in the background, but it never emerges ... Everything is dusty and dried.

Showing that screwcap can't save everything - went well with slightly burnt homemade / Pillsbury Chocolate chip cookies

Funky, reductive initially but with massive agitation (yes, hand over the glass and giving it a shake) it shows dense black fruits, sweet spice. Plums. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity and travels hand in hand with chewy chalky & grippy tannins, red over black fruits in support. Interesting.

Jammy black fruits are slightly muted, sweet spice shows clove and there is a slight fruit cake note here as well. In the mouth it is juicy, fleshy with slightly bitter black fruits and chewy, chalky tannins. Woof, time.

Ripe but jubey black over red berry; black strawberry (?), sweet spice, slight cream. More of the same on the palate, talc textured tannic burr, long, pure, simple, lovely.

Mellowed and balanced, shy tertiary savory and mushroom notes on nose, but still with that robust Syrah punch on palate.

Pepper spice and dark fruits on the nose but hot. Is it really only 14.5% alc.? Smooth mostly the dark fruits coming through on the palate with a medium somewhat tangy finish. Not overly hot on the palate . Nice. Worth getting again

Clear, bright, medium ruby with a pinkish rim. Medium intensity nose reminiscent of raspberry ice cream, pink roses, cigar box, baking spices and dusty earthy notes. On the palate, plum and black cherry join the band. Tannins and acid are medium, med+ alcohol, med-full body, lush texture, and a long finish.

Very dark deep red colour. Heavy but soft red fruit nose. Rich red fruits with a soft round mouthfeel. A big soft delicious red of the Barossa style (with a good alcohol level, I suspect). A night matched with pizza.

Tallmikewine was right about this lasting to its 20th year…but about as understated as the back label reference to this lasting for ten to fifteen years

No hint of browning, acidity fresh, loads of blackcurrant and eucalyptus, touch of pepper on finish

Decanted one hour, open another hour, served cellar temperature

Quintessential mature shiraz

Some quantity of sediment. Hard to decant with the strongly coloured glass.
Deep red, right to the edge.
Spicy aged shiraz. Shows its French oak component. Showing some aged complexity but still very youthful at nearly 11 years.
Palate: Rich McLaren Vale Shiraz but with an elegance so often missing from there. Wonderful balance. Entering its drinking window. The French oak, so often missing in Aussie Shiraz, contributes enormously to its elegance and balance.
In general I avoid McLaren Vale but the likes of Ben Riggs give me hope for the region.
2012 was a vintage for the ages across South Australia especially, and Victoria.

Mr. Riggs Shiraz, Magnum 2004
Deep ruby garnet color with good clarity. Decant for 2 hours in bottle, ready to drink after that. Nose of riped fruits, concentrated with black, though this is a Shiraz, berries, cherries, blueberries. Plummy with rich character, light spice, slight oak, little earthy. Entry is smooth, savory, medium body and palate mainly echo the nose. All tannins has subsided, mild acidity, tapering....Finished is pleasant, mid length. Consume within next 3 years. 90 pts

GT Wine Magazine Top Tasting Grenache (Mille Vini, Surry Hills): Jammy baked red berry fruit, slight dusty earth, sweet spice, smidge of cedar, sourly juicy, the drying tannin proves a little chalky textured, baked red berry fruits without any fruit sweetness but with alcohol warmth. It’s a bit tough. Hmm.
Second taste – still a little hard on the palate.

Opulent. Bottle age refined tannins lead a lengthy, velvet finish which is singing at the moment. Elegant and rather soft dark cherry fruit, and a dry exceedingly savoury mid palate. Some browning of the colour and moderate sediment thrown show the age of the wine which might have peaked, but is certainly not over the hill. An exceptional Tempranillo from 2006. 93 and opening with more air

This disappeared pretty quickly, and I can’t remember too much about it. I guess this is a good thing. From what I remember, good balance between fruit and oak, and good drinking even at this young age. Good quality fruit here.

Great wine drinking perfectly now. Easily has another three years but probably won’t go beyond that. Full luscious fruit with varietal characteristics. Good length. No tannins to speak of. Really enjoyed it
