3rd edition, blend of ‘18, 20 and 21 vintages. Rather oak-forward at this stage, too much for my taste. Nice fruit and structure though, and very popular at the table. Drinking decently enough now but would also be interesting to try again in a few years.

This is a very tasty example of a slightly aged, fruity ruby port, offering a lot of pleasure at a low price (roughly 20 euros for the bottle, in Porto, Portugal). It's definitely ready to drink, with a lot of warm spice, plum and caramel.

Powerfull wine, fruit forward with some typical Touriga nacional notes. Well balanced with good tannins, low acidity, some sweetness. Should age quite well for the next 5-8 years. Drank at restaurant People in Lisbon.

Amber/orange color. In the bouquet some nuts, apricots and sugared oranges. On the palate full bodied, sweet, caramel and butterscotch, orange zest, length and some bitterness.

Medium amber color. The nose shows raw almond, quince paste, dried white flowers, orange peels and some sea salt. The palate has a nice creaminess with a dry, salty appeal. Apricot, orange peel, the fruit mixes with ginger, white flowers and mineral tones. Not too deep but fun and lively and interesting.

Medium bodied, clear ruby red with young violet edges. Smokey black currant and blackberry nose aside some yeasty notes. There’s a touch of green pepper and eucalyptus, forest floor notes as well. The mouth is medium plus acidity, well structured by fine grained tannins. Very savory and dark flavors carry through a medium long finish. Very nice wine.

Bought at auction. Non-vintage. Not the current/latest label. Driven cork. Very little wine had soaked into the cork. About a teaspoonful of fine sediments. Based on all this I would guess that it was bottled within the last 5-15 years.
APPEARANCE: Medium to deep colour, between purple and ruby. Thick, long legs on the glass.
NOSE: A mix of fresh and stewed/cooked red and dark berries. A hint of dustiness. Fruitier with air. Very recognisable as a port.
With more air both the fresh and stewed fruit part fade and a slightly more “polished” and drier fruitiness appear (which I associate with bottle ageing). From the empty glass; stewed prunes, earthy floor and leather. (83-85p)
TASTE: Also in the mouth the first impression is of a mix of fresh and stewed/cooked red and dark berries. Quite rounded, seems to indicate at least a few years of bottle age. Medium sweet for a ruby port. In the exit and aftertaste there are some minor burnt and/or alcoholic notes, a little black pepper as well as quite a bit of sweet, dark chocolate. The fruit (hence the wine) appears slightly younger in the mouth than on the nose. The aftertaste is medium long for a port; 30-40 seconds. (84-86p)
OVERALL: A medium to medium high quality ruby which I estimate to have aged in bottle for up to 10 years and probably benefited from that by loosing some sweetness and potentially any sharper edges(?) TOTAL SCORE 85 points.

Madeira Pilgrimage; 2/1/2016-2/4/2016 (Madeira): Alright, time to mix things up with a wine from the mainland. This is a bold, dark and juicy wine with dark berries, cocoa and tobacco aromas. Full with solid tannic structure, seems densely tannic after all the Maderia wine I’ve been tasting. But I dig the chewy plum and currant fruit, and I get complex notes of olive, iron and loam. Firm but opens up; it does what it does very well.

Lovely effort. High acidity and low on the 'syrupy' factor. Nice, evolved fruit. Pronounced delicious by all who sampled. Looking forward to dipping back into it for some nips over the rest of the holiday season.

Dark ruby colour. The nose is ok but it is a bit sharp on the palate. Short finish. I don't think it will improve with time. Ok for a monday night while reading a book.
