2010 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino

Sangiovese more

11/10/2017 - cjohnson2960 Likes this wine: 90 points

I respectfully disagree with Ms. Larner and Messrs. Galloni and Suckling. This Brunello is certainly good. At present, however, it is not very good much less exceptional - even after oxygenating with Menu and Vinturi and several hours of decanting. I will hold my other bottles until the reviews suggest the wine has improved. The reported drinking window of 2017-2030 should be re-evaluated.

1995 Château Cos d'Estournel

Opened last night at a Cos tasting with wines spanning from 1973 to 2018 and the 1995 was the wine of the evening and was in a dead heat with 1982
The wine was professionally decanted several hours earlier at the Wine Watch and we went through a vertical, Beyond a doubt, the 95 was in a great place, The nose was floral, a little green, and vanilla oak. Inspecting the color and the 95 showed no visible sign of age. The palate was filled with a fresh swirl of dark black cherry, with hints of vanilla, mushroom, tobacco, earth, and pencil lead going down with enough tannins and enough light acidity for a finish that is till tight, but very elegant. This was my #1 Cos of the evening followed by the 1982, 2000, 2005, and 2010. 2009 drank like a good California wine and the 2018 is approachable and I think is the Cos to buy now.
Cos 1995 is in an excellent spot and I strongly recommend you try it if it's in your collection because it's in an amazing place

Bottle 4 of 4 Robert Foley Sip 'n Snack Day. Just when we thought Nirvana had been achieved, we slip into this stunner. Perhaps the culmination of Robert Foley. Pure dark purple red. Opaqueness can be a good thing!!! Nose is perfectly balanced after 7 hours breathing. Wow, wow, wow. Soft, rich, full welcoming of cherries on the nose. Slick, salubrious, soft texture on the palate. A Napa-Bordeaux blend baby ready to sip now and for the near future. She is the "keeper". Introduce to Mom, Dad, friends, etc. Her grace, strong personality, confident stride and elegant engagement will make you the King of Her Court with everyone in attendance wishing they were you. Giver her Grandma's ring...now!!!

3/30/2020 12:07:00 PM - Tremendous bottle last evening, certainly ready to drink. Decanted with a Rabbit Pura aerator/filter for a half hour - not necessarily because it was needed, but to build anticipation. Gorgeous nose of red fruit and flower that perfumed the entire room upon opening. Mature red fruit, dark chocolate and baking spices with largely resolved, soft tannins leading to a long and satisfying finish.

Classic Caymus with concentrated and lush fruit. I wonder what the Wagners do to create this profile amongst all of their wines. I love this inky, well-rounded long finishing wine!

Purchased direct from winery. PNP. Per my previous notes, this is outstanding. Deep Ruby in the glass with striking aromas of black cherry, black currant, black-berry jam, spring flowers and pipe tobacco. On the palate the acids and fruit provide plenty of freshness while the structure is rich, layered and complex. A long Rutherford Dust finish. The still present tannins hold everything together with the promise of several more years of great drinking. The type of Cab that put Napa on the map. Drink now-2030. Great QPR. I've tasted all vintages of the Trailside going back to '01 and this is the standout; the 2007 may sneak up on it in another 5 years.

Ruby garnet with brick just beginning on the edge. Has cedar, cherries, leather and quite a bit of oak on the nose. Has good structure, tannins and acid. Very Long finish. Tobacco and oak with well balanced fruit. Not a ton of weight and slightly bright from the acid. Very tasty.

Exquisitely perfumed wine! Red and black currant with a touch of licorice. Elegant and smooth and rich in aroma. Nice American-oak influence on the nose. Richly textured. Lovely ripe red and black berry fruit. Cassis, currant. Very pretty fruit with polished tannin. Very good!

Reddish purple on the eye...almost opaque. We like mystery. Massive alcohol on the nose demanded 2+ hours breathing the bottle before we even thought about approaching this blend of most everything good in Portugal. Aromas of dark red fruits, cherries...intensely fruity. Subtle tannins. Too fruity finish from our perspective. We think perhaps too early to sip as oak not really present, which we would have expected after 20+ months aging in barrels. Please, very good QPR sip.

Decanted. First glass, this was tight and the nose was faint. Strong tannins and long finish. Ager, too young. Walked away and came back 2 hours later. Wow. Wine had totally transformed. Asian spice, symphony on the nose. Balanced, silky. I'll hold my other bottle for several more years - probably another 5-10 years from peak.

Beautiful claret, dark and inky, emitting a brilliant garnet light at the rim. Huge dark red and blue fruit on the nose, berries, licorice, and crushed mineral. Unctuous and substantial. Nice finish.
