12/21/2021 - cadamson Likes this wine: NRNot sure why I opened, I knew from the last bottle this needs years to reach where it should be. Good, but don’t open yet. |

1967 Luigi Calissano Barolo Riserva SpecialeNebbiolo more |
5/1/2021 - cadamson Likes this wine: NRDecanted only a couple hours. Fantastic wine. An alluring nose, leather, truffle, red fruits. Loads of Unami. Kept getting better throughout the night. Probably the best 1967 I have ever had.

2015 E. Guigal Condrieu La DorianeViognier more |
10/22/2020 - cadamson Likes this wine: NROkay. A bit too waxy and creamy, without enough acidity to even that out. Nose is floral, but only after getting past some of the obvious oak. Note sounds negative, and I suppose it is a bit, but it is well made, holds interest, etc., purely a stylistic thing.

5/8/2020 - cadamson Likes this wine: NRSimilar to my 1/22/2020 tasting note. Oddly, I was just as dumb this time in not starting the decant in the morning. Still, as it opens up and gains weight to balance out the acidity, really becomes pretty nice for a 55 year old bottle. Especially so at $85.

8/27/2019 - cadamson wrote: NRCandied, very large scale and extracted. Some heat. Reasonably tasty in a vacuum, though nothing to hold individuality or interest. Yes, well made in a sense, and I am sure lovely for those who appreciate the style.

5/5/2019 - acidqueen wrote: 97 pointsIn a vertical of Monte Real Gran Reservas last week, from 1942 to 2011, this was the top wine, followed by the 1968. It all depends on the bottle at this age, but these were all direct from the winery cellars, so as good as you are likely to get. I didn’t take great notes, but it was rich, fresh and still young. Stunning.

2012 Marcassin Pinot Noir Marcassin VineyardSonoma Coast more |
3/18/2019 - cadamson Likes this wine: NRYes, young, but is it just me that the last couple years of these have been nicely more constrained than in the past. Just as the 2012 Chardonnay was the best (by far) of any Marcassin Chard I had had (probably 10-12 vintages worth), I think the 2012 pinot is right up there as the best young one I have tried. I struggle to see how these became so controversial over the years. Pretty delicious and nicely balanced, a few years under its belt should make it outstanding.

1985 Fonseca Porto VintagePort Blend more |
4/15/2018 - cadamson Likes this wine: 94 pointsNot much to complain about here. Drinking wonderfully. Was a bit more tame, for lack if a better word, than I expected, but do not take the negatively, but as positive. Dark ruby. Lots of flowers, dark fruit and cocoa. Very good acidity more or less perfectly balanced with the remaining soft, integrated tannins. Could sip on this daily!

2/9/2017 - cadamson wrote: NRThis was way too dominated by smokey oak notes. I felt like I was checking on a charred barrel. Did not see anyone mention this in any other notes, so wondering. Some sweet vanilla on the finish, pretty big and brawny on the palate. I see why some say smoked meats, tar, etc. but just cannot get past the smoke.

2015 Bonavita Terre Siciliane RosatoNerello Blend, Nerello Mascalese more |
2/5/2017 - cadamson Likes this wine: 90 pointsExcellent rose. Like sticking your nose and palate in a bowl of fresh picked strawberries. Good acidity. Should add that it really has nice structure. Came back to it on day 2 and had not moved an inch. Moving up to 91. Quite refreshing sitting on the beach!

4/28/2015 - cadamson Likes this wine: 93 pointsProbably the best $20 bottle of wine in a long time. What a great QPR. That was truly excellent, and in a great spot. Had it over three nights and remained excellent the entire time. Blue and red fruits, a bit of spice, and an earthy component. Nice finish. Should have bought a case for a go to nightly wine.

12/22/2021 12:40:00 PM - That's funny! What makes the struggle even more dumb is opening it after having too much of a bunch of other bottles. You would think after 25 years of imbibing, I would learn...but I am in the #neverlearn club also.
