Good but not very compelling either. Syrah is definitely Gramercy's best. Has a bitterness to it that lowers the appeal, also a few astringent hard edges. An okay effort. 89-90 pts.

Celebrating the new house with some west coast goodness; 1/18/2013-1/20/2013 (New house): I was expecting the nice syncline purity of fruit and instead I got oak. Perhaps this was just too young as there was fruit hiding in there. Mouth filling and teeth coating wine which is very different from my expectations. I need to try 3-4 force majeure wines side by side to see if there is actually a difference in all the series.

1/23/2013 11:29:00 PM - I agree (check out the note for the '06 Ptera which was still too young but good). My problem with this particular FM wine is that I expected that beautiful clarity of fruit you get with the SVD Syncline wines. I look to those for a great expression of fruit unencumbered by much else and this wine is pretty contrary to that. I guess it is more a guess of misaligned expectations than anything else although the more of the FM portfolio I have drank the less I am convinced it will be something I continue to purchase given the heavy house style.
