quote:
The little known region benefits from a mild, temperate climate that suits the traditional Mencia grape variety perfectly and enables it to reach its finest expression.
This particular wine is made by Katia Alvarez for Bodegas Martin Codax, using grapes from mature 60-year-old vines (?!; I did not taste that; would expert some complexity than).
The fruit grows in vineyards meticulously maintained by generations of vine growers who’s knowledge of the Mencia grape in unrivalled.

straight from the just opened bottle:
light, but rich with good tannins and acidity
better after 10 minutes, more or lots of red fruits, but also some sweetness from the fruit and the alcohol
after 3 days:
supple, smooth, fruity, somewhat simple, but good and very drinkable
at € 7 QPR=8+ !
not a real keeper, drink it now or within 2 years, although it might improve (somewhat)
and a nice grape !
The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Thick, dark, brooding Tempranillo, almost inky. Completely unlike a Rioja style, as seems to be normal for Ribera Del Duero Tempranillos.

2/12/2015 11:05:00 AM - It's not from Rioja and not from Ribera del Duero... It's from Castilla y Leon ;-)
