Blah. This wine seemed way over the hill. Flat, muted fruit, no depth, no real finish. Just seemed tired.

When I was a child, I used to love Dannon black cherry yogurt with the fruit on the bottom. Those black cherries were sweet and delicious. But I grew up. A wine that tastes like sweet ripe cherries isn't appealing. Sweet ripe cherries with heavy new-oak mocha and vanilla flavors, high alcohol, and low acidity is particularly hard to swallow.

Being a Bordeaux junkie, this was my first serious Cdp. The wine came out of the bottle like a genie from a lamp, exuding horse shit wrapped in sweet potpourri. The secondary notes delivered soft supple sweetness, followed by earth and cow paddy pie, with a floral rose pedal, super dry grip that did not let go for nearly a minute. All I could think of was WOW! Where has this sexy little thing been all my life?

I would have scored higher, but the second glass did not have the same sex appeal. It came across as a bit more thick, and fleshy. My only concern about this wine is that it lacks clarity. It looks so oxygen deprived that it inhales so much, so fast, forming tiny micro bubbles, releasing allot of that mule like stubbornness that makes it so damn sexy, chase worthy, and fine. It becomes very fleshy and glucose heavy. Almost as if it is filled with un-converted sugar. Perhaps its way too young and needs time. But I have ordered more bottles, so we shall see...

5/14/2014 12:49:00 AM - I had a very positive experience with this wine too ..and have build up a bit of stock in both the 2009 and the 2010. I gather that the 2010 might be even more complex and age worthy. From where are you ordering more?

I was well aware that this was too young - although I was curious to see how different this would be from the 2007. And what a difference a year with lots of sun can be.. I was missing the fruit, or just having to Put Up with too much acidity. I hope that a 3-5 years of cellaring will make this wine become more balanced, and hopefully a better experience than the 07. Difficult to rate - 89 today, 90-92 in a few years?

11/25/2013 7:15:00 AM - Hi Stefan - thanks for that.
Problem is that by 2023 it might be difficult to find more bottles of the Albe 2008 as easily as it is now in Sweden - that is if you will enjoy it by then. At 189 SEK I beleive this will be a very good buy ..to enjoy over many years going forward. I will definately stock up on more. Although not in a big rush :D

Classic rioja. Quite predictable. Not very exciting - although solid effort.
