Tasted like a high-quality Manzanilla cut with 20% Amontillado... which was nice. A seamless wine the colour of burnished gold, bone-dry and saline with fairly intense rancio on the finish. Immensely energetic and savoury, the umami fest created by drinking this with best quality iberico ham was one of life's peak experiences.

From the bottle a burst of fruit, acid and tannin.

After a two hour decant all the interesting depths are revealed. At times liquorice, leather, tobacco; a real gamut of tertiary scents and tastes present themselves.

I love how this is balanced and refined. It drinks superbly and feels like the ultimate presentation of a very good St Julien. It has gravitas and dignity, depth and refinement, body, soul and character.

Very, very good, my type of Bordeaux, a big recommendation from me.
