Light to medium bodied red wine, mostly cherry flavors, lots of vanilla, don't get much of the dark fruits or tobacco orhers have tasted, silky tannins, some unbalanced alcohol, average length. Easy-drinking wine, nothing special. Drink now. - 87 points

Crimson-garnet; cherry cola, plums, red currants, tobacco, vanilla; black cherry/berry, earthy, glycerin, medium body, good acidity, excellent balance, chewy tannins, lingering finish.
Restrained dark fruit with tobacco and tar notes. Balanced with flavourful tannins that lingered in the mouth. Enjoyable, classy version of this varietal.

Ruby red, opaque center. Dark berries, meat, savory herbs (bay leaf?), barely perceptible oak adds complexity, deep. Tart blackberries, olives, black pepper. Good mid-palate intensity, finishes on drying tannins. First Okanagan Valley Syrah I’ve tried, and it’s a good one. 13.7% ABV.

In the glass, really deep ruby colour with lightening around the glass. Nose is medium + intensity with a really nice flavor profile. Olive, spice, red fruit. On the palate, medium tannins, medium + acidity, medium body and alcohol. Flavor of juicy plum and sweet spice. Good length.

Really interesting wine. Not a tone of structure to have wine last for decades, but would be interesting to revisit in a couple years to see what happens with the tertiary flavors

Ripe nose of cherry and spice with a faint earthy note. On the palate, comes off slightly hot, however balances out with the high acidity and long finish. Plum and spice on the palate. Interested to see how it develops in 2 years or so. Drink or hold.

With some air (2 hours) became a really nice nose of plum, cherry, sweet spice. On the palate explosive flavours due with a massive amount of acidity, but nice tannins to balance. Finish was very good at this price point. Overall a very enjoyable wine. Less green ‘bell pepper’ like flavours than I would have expected from a Cabernet franc, which I preferred. Make sure you give the bottle air. Noticeable changes by the second hour for the positive. The sour cherry flavours dissipated and the wine became much more balanced. Very enjoyable

Nose of strawberry and raspberry. Palate the same with some juicy acidity and no bitterness (I’ve had other Cab Franc roses that show some). Good by itself but also excellent with lighter entree. Didn’t notice the 14.5% ABV.

Bought one for CAD 20 on sale (- CAD 2.5/b) (+ tax) from the gov store and then bought 3b more for CAD 19 with 5% mixed case discount from a Lower Mainland chain; this is #1. Decanted for mini-ox 2h before serving. Purple; redcurrant, violets; tart red fruits, some tomato, lean at first; some persistence. Lean mouthfeel at first but evolved in 24h--better mouthfeel, more fruit. Another better BC wine that will need time to be at its best--glad to have more. My evaluation (see earlier posts for my 4-category, non-point rating system): This is notable+ when considering quality, age, and price in the BCLDB environment (high taxes, highly regulated and protected).

Nice structure, very young. Med+ acid, raspberry, some bell pepper, forest floor. Feels like young Bordeaux. Needs 3+ years. Drink 2025-2030

We opened a bottle of this a while ago and liked it enough to get more, this time not so much. It is a strongly flavoured rosé, which I like, but I found it a bit bitter this time around.

I love the Bordertown cab franc and think it's a bargain. I had some hope for the cab sav, but alas, it's not something I'd buy again. If you really want a BC cab sav that's in the $30 ballpark, try the Nk Mip QQ cab.

PS: Three days later, I finished the last glass and it had become a decent wine. Went well with pizza.

Medium to deep ruby in colour with slightly restrained aromas of black fruit, vegetal/herbal earthiness & a hint of mint.
On the palate, fruit forward tart black fruit, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, with vegetal/herbaceous overtones. Zesty high acidity & medium to high slightly angular tannins & only a hint of background oak. A long spicy peppery finish, & this wine is balanced & complex. A little reminiscent of a Chilean Carmenere. Well done!

2012 Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Malbec

Okanagan Valley more

8/15/2019 - geoffjb Likes this wine: 87 points

A family gathering featuring our good friend Malbec: This was our third wine of the night. After visiting Cahors, we took a detour through British Columbia, Canada. Although not typically known for Malbec, as Canadians we figured that the Okanagan needed to be represented. In the end, although it ranked 4th of 6 for the group, this Okanagan Malbec beat out both French Malbecs we tried. That said, it was also $8 and $12 more than the two French wines in our flight, so perhaps a pricier French Malbec would have fared better in our rankings.

The Bordertown Malbec was clear and a deep ruby with a clear rim. On the nose it was clean and low intensity, with aromas of rose stems, stuffy cabin, and later, green pepper. There were also sligh aromas of forest floor and leather. Flavours were clean and medium intensity, with oak, leather, and blackberry standing out. Sweetness was medium(-), acidity and tannins were medium, and the alcohol was absent. Body and finish were both medium(+). I would describe this wine as crisp and a bit spicy.

Overall, this was a good wine. It was tough to pin down a fruit flavour on the nose. Even at $27 CAD, I would buy this again.
