This has aged well. I pop and poured this one. It was drinking well immediately, but benefitted from a half hour to warm up and open up. Big black cherry nose, some raisin note and ash-tray (in a good way), (maybe I'm thinking tobacco). Smooth tannins. Perfect drinking window.

Decanted a couple hours. Nice big fruit-forward nose of dark cherry and blackberry. Full bodied and a palate with dark plum, oak, cooked blueberry. The finish is somewhat grippy but with a detergent edge to it, not totally off-putting and it got better. This may be on the younger side still. Give it at least two hours decant and have with food.

1/29/2022 11:21:00 PM - eply to darrenv: Thanks for your comment. We've had feet in both countries for years and watched the ascent of BC wines during that time--and even a bit of loosening of the gov's grip on the market.
6/7/2020 7:02:00 PM - Hi! The competition for the 2015 Kerloo Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Klipsun were a 2014 Revelry Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon D11 Dionysus and a 2015 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon Bosché Vineyard. If you click on the "Washington vs. California Cabernet Sauvignons" hyperlink at the beginning of my tasting notes, it will take you to the tasting notes for all three wines on one page for easy comparison. Cheers!
3/9/2018 6:12:00 PM - I'm in Victoria (over on the coast ;) )
I was going to go to the VIWF, but have too much work etc.
I'd buy the Desert Ridge stuff, and the $19 stuff is usually in my weekday list. It's a date for 2025. You'll have to come over for a tasting this spring or summer.
3/9/2018 5:17:00 PM - Lol...no, just catching up from the Wine Festival we had here on the coast.
Yes, the price is very steep...agreed. But I taste something special in this juice. I will invite you over to taste in 2025!
1/18/2018 12:34:00 PM - No, you're right. It is definitely the Cellared in Canada kind of joint. It just had holdover premium stock from years gone by. I went in because a couple of years before that I found some Supertuscans at reduced prices there. But all the premium stuff is long gone.
1/15/2018 5:58:00 PM - Weird. I've never been in there! It looks like the kind of place that has Painted Turtle, Naked Grape and Obikwa.
Let's get together soon.
1/15/2018 11:42:00 AM - Re: the Pop Grove Legacy - I did pop in to Liquor Depot in Saanich Plaza (name?) up by Uptown where I found the '05 and '06 back in early fall but the few bottles remaining then were long gone. There's always new wine to discover but I had a sad face for a couple of hours last week!
11/13/2017 11:54:00 AM - Thanks Darren for a fabulous CS blind tasting. I sent a teaser post to Francois! We'll wrap up one of his NB's and put alongside some other meritage reds. Please thank Terri again!
8/24/2017 4:46:00 PM - D - excellent contrast between Ring & Schreiner on the same Tinhorn wine. I am going to search out the Clos du Soleil 2014 Syrah and try it.
6/14/2017 6:43:00 AM - Welcome back John! The weather is like 2009 or 10 when people were saying 'June-uary'. But when the sun shines, it's nice. I'm pretty open. I'll get back to you with a real proposal shortly!
6/13/2017 11:51:00 AM - Hi Darren. We have returned from Italy. Had a delightful time. We are slowly acclimating to the island weather after very hot days in Florence & Rome. What evenings are you free the week after Canada Day? We can meet for a glass of wine and bite to eat at Stage or Bodega or wherever. You pick the night and the spot. Grazie, John
5/12/2017 6:40:00 AM - I have all the boxes ticked on my notification page.
Anyway, too bad, but we'll catch up after you've returned. Good luck with all that learnin' :) Have fun and let me know when you're back.
5/11/2017 1:46:00 PM - Apologies, Darren I'm just now seeing your response to me on your message board. Sadly, we already have plans for tomorrow evening (12th). We'll have to get together later in June. So, it appears when one replies to another member on their own message board it doesn't send a notification to the receiving member. I've looked at my notification settings and they only notify when comments are left on my MB or replies to my tasting notes. Bit of a gap here that I'll let the CT administrator know about. Ciao!
5/4/2017 4:36:00 PM - I meant the 12th :)
Let me know how that works. Otherwise, have a great time in Italy! Tour of Italy (cycling race) will be happening then!
5/4/2017 11:09:00 AM - If you mean that "Next Friday" would then be May 19th, we'll be in Italy. I'm taking my Level 3 WSET in Florence. We'll be back in early June. Maybe we'll meet up after our trip then.
Intrigued by the Marichel Lone Wolf Syrah! Arrivederci!
5/3/2017 6:46:00 PM - Actually North 48 doesn't have Laughing Stock anymore, but they have Corcelettes Pinot Noir, which I love despite not being a PN fan. Friday we're being taken out by a friend, but the next Friday would work. We also go to Heron Rock Bistro in James Bay. They have great live music (usually a guitar and double bass Jazz duo) and they have Marichel Lone Wolf Syrah by the glass which is fabulous. They too have good bottle prices. Let me know if next Friday is good.
5/3/2017 10:07:00 AM - Hi Darren, unfortunately I didn't get a notification of your earlier message. Yes, lets meet at Stage next week if possible. How's Thursday or Friday evening (the 11th or 12th)? Are we inviting spouses? Happy to bring my wife to Fernwood. Let us know best evening and time for you. p.s. North 48 has very reasonable wine markups - particularly L.S. BTR
4/17/2017 6:19:00 PM - Hi John. Obviously you go to stage? I live near Stage, but don't go as often as I'd like. I usually go to North 48 or Heron Rock Bistro on Friday evenings (my wife is on-strike from cooking dinner on Friday). We should meet up somewhere for sure.
4/17/2017 12:38:00 PM - Hi darrenv, as Francois has pointed out we are both in the Victoria area. Let me know if you want to meet over a bottle of red and discuss BC wines and beyond. My handle is canoehead but my name is John. Looking forward to meeting you.

One hour decant. I'm not sure it's too early. This is simply not a good example of GT. More austere of body, but decent fruit.
Day two: WAY BETTER.
