Deep golden color. Rich, expansive, honeyed palate. Mature, complex, and delicious. That said this is more advanced than I would expect -- not sure if it's just this bottle or it's time to drink 'em all up.

Enjoyed two glasses of this 2020 Rosé, which had been opened by a friend two days prior. In the glass, the wine is a deep salmon color with more pale, pinkish rim. On the nose, ripe strawberry, Trader Joe’s Thai lime and chili almonds, watermelon, dried green herbs, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with low tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium and there was a very nice, silky texture. This was quite charming and the Thai lime component I found to be especially interesting. This drinks well now and should continue to do so through 2030.

Provence (Mexicantown): This pour is the fifth and final in a flight of Provençal rosé wines across two domaines and seven years.
Four years ago, this tasted of punch bowl—sticky and alcoholic. Now, desiccated, the elegance of its skeleton is bare. TASTE: impacted, stained glass vibrant fruit and scented sap. This is more remote than its 2020 sibling, sealed as it is under a glaze of biological time. Subtle eruptions of strawberry cured with brown spices and leather; dried lemon peel; orange seed; nutrient soil; marmalade; adhesive tannins. Notice spirited, sticky shades of eucalyptus. It's boozy, and intensely yielding of flavor; spined skin; lime, mint, lingonberry; marsh; driftwood; charcoal. I could be persuaded this bottle has seen its peak, with a caveat: this cuvée is licensed to suprise in that regard. 91 points at 45° F. 94 points at 60° F. At 80° F, 100.
________
24 hours later, it has paced through the usual compression and blooming familiar to table wines of its age and stature. There's lots of text here, and beckoning reservation. It exemplifies certain virtues I associate with Bordeaux and Burgundy. (Is it's relationship to those storied references schizoid, or synthetic? Anyway, that's the contest that animates the dialog.)

Provence (Mexicantown): This pour follows directly after three other Provençal rosé wines.
This one is reserved, mannered, and brooding. Dense with information; animated; lean.
Cordial drupe rides shotgun with curcubis/curcubet/curcuma (melon, cuke, turmeric, siam tulip) shag. Improbable lithic structure. Bitter, appetizing stone, inky with buried shade. Rooted green acidity. Drinkability: unproblematic. Considerable palate mass is swept along briskly, producing compounding yields of aromatic frontal intensity (strawberry lime.) Copious sappy acid in laminar cataract, drawn from balsam mushroom litter. Chewable residual slurps produce fluent verse. Illuminated stuff.
________
Delays of 24 and 48 hours confirm all of this.

What a wine! Rich and full palate with long finish. slightly oxidated, amontillado like. Good acidity for (many) more years to come.

On the first day, it was still closed. Open and blossoming on the third day. Don't serve this cold. Ca. 14 degrees C will do. Still delicious on day 4.

Outstanding! Has to be one of the greatest whites I know. Beautifully aged. Gained in complexity and depth the longer it was open. Very ripe but still incredibly drinkable and fresh.

I’d forgotten what this was made from and on opening would have said it was a mature claret - has that old leather and cigar thing going on, but with a good palate of plummy fruit. Really rather lovely.

Rich gold towards amber color; magnificent nose of orange peel, marzipan, and almond; palate is full, apricot, manzanilla sherry-ish and citrus notes; acidity shows still some years ahead. This reflects a masterful use of the blend, clearly some extended skin contact to present a wine that is multifaceted and unique.

My first experience with Simone. A fair bit of smoky reduction at first, seemingly burgundy like. That mostly blows off after an hour or so, showing a wine that seems halfway between Rhone and Italy (maybe verdicchio). No fatness, but a waxy texture with unique flavors of lemon oil, fuji apple, hay and dried mint, Brazil nuts, and a decent amount of phenolic bitterness. Layered and long. While I get the comparison to Musar, this leans more intellectual than pleasurable one, and to me Musar is often both.

Echo frijole. Lots of green fruit & woody overtones, nut & baking spice undertones. Finding some fig, apricot and saline in the finish. Plenty of complexity, drinking well now. Punches above its weight for qpr. If you’re looking for an interesting wine, definitely give this a try.

translucent light but bright ruby colour (almost like a red) and medium-plus body. fragrant nose of fresh tarragon and mint, raspberries and strawberries, flowering damask roses and white blossoms, and hints of pear and grapefruit. rich and full in the mouth, there is a cherry liqueur-like intensity on entry that fleshes out into layers of fresh berry laced with the herbal accents and mineral accents. there is good structure and acidity but in such balance already… one has to think about them! long finish with good hints of the complexity to come.

dry, balanced, complex, gastronomic, and young (accessible too!), but one to lay down for a couple of years and enjoy for a handful more after that.

14% AbV; 45% Grenache/ 30% Mourvèdre/ 5% Cinsault/ 20% mixed other varieties that include (Syrah, Castet, Manosquin, Carignan, Muscat); fermented in small foudres and racked to neutral oak barriques for ageing on the lees until the following spring.

Grenache 45%, mourvèdre 30%, cinsaut 5%, "secondary" varieties 20% including syrah, castet, manosquin, carignan, various muscatel. Bottle No: 12520.

My first Palette (of any colour) and on first opening I wasn't very impressed - the nose is big sweet red fruit (very ripe strawberries primarily) but the palate follows with sweetness bordering on candy with little else to balance it.

However, what this needs is air: after 20-30 minutes things have settled down and come into a much better balance. The nose has a wild strawberry note to it as well as a bit of sweetness. The palate now has a complexity of red fruits (still with a hint of sweetness, but now not in any way candied or cloying), and just a slight herbal edge, balanced with moderate acidity, and with just a touch of tannin towards the finish.

So now it's a rather nice rosé which is going well with some guacamole etc.

But having said that, for me there's no wow factor to justify a a price of over US$55.

PnP that would have greatly benefited from an hour or two of aeration in wide bottom decanter. That said, it was such an enjoyable pairing with some authentic Cuban food (drove to Miami for a few days with this sole purpose in mind). Med+ body, with ample, cool acidity that lets the wine flow in all directions; keeps it from being linear. Textbook flavors and aromas and no sign of age at all. Based on this one, I'll plan to open my next one in ~ five years. Given that this bottle got emptied some two hours later, the low(er) alcohol was a bonus. For its full potential (close, but not quite there yet) it's highly recommended

A blend of organically farmed Grenache (45%), Mourvèdre (30%) and Cinsault (5%) with remaining 20% rounded out by Syrah, Castet, Manosquin, Carignan, Muscat Noir and Muscat Blanc. Fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in oak vats. Aged for 12 months in old oak foudres with fine lees. 12,5% alcohol.

Aged, translucent, rusty-red color with a clear, wide rim. The nose feels old, tertiary and slightly oxidative with aromas of raisins and prunes, some bruised apple tones, a little bit of chopped almonds, light smoky nuances, a hint of meat stew, a touch of browned butter and a whiff of dried dates. The wine is old, savory and somewhat tired on the palate with a full body and a bit oxidized flavors of dried dates and raisiny red fruit, some bruised apple tones, a little bit of browned butter, light stony mineral notes, a hint of oxidative nuttiness and a salty, aldehydic touch of sorrel. The mouthfeel is somewhat oily and slightly viscous, but the high acidity gives good sense of structure to the wine. The finish is rich, evolved and somewhat dark-toned with a long, oxidative aftertaste of chopped nuts and almond paste, some meaty notes of bouillon, a little bit of stony minerality, light sweeter nuances of wizened strawberries and dried dates, a hint of sorrel and a touch of bruised apple.

Unlike the fantastic bottle we had three years ago, this wine was past its peak and obviously hadn't held up as well as the other bottle. The high quality of the wine nevertheless showed through and the wine was pretty enjoyable for an old rosé, but even if then it was pretty obvious that this wine was not anymore what it was supposed to be. Fortunately the wine was only a bit oxidative and not completely shot and in pieces. At this point it should be obvious that there are no great wines, only great bottles. Leaving the wine unrated this time.

A blend of Grenache (45%), Mourvèdre (30%), Cinsaut (5%) and a mixed assortment of Syrah, Castet, Manosquin, Carignan and various varieties of Muscat (total 20%) from north-facing vineyards averaging 50 years old. Made by blending a little bit of bled-off wine with direct press wine. Aged in old, small oak barrels. 13,5% alcohol. Bottle #2857.

Rather deep, concentrated and luminous brick-orange color. The nose feels rich, sweet-toned and subtly smoky with wonderfully evolved aromas of ripe cranberries and some smoky tones, a little bit of wizened red cherry, light strawberry jam nuances, evolved hints of caramel and bruised apple, a touch of exotic spices and a whiff of saline minerality. The wine feels ripe, broad and quite substantial on the palate with a moderately full body and complex, vibrant flavors of sweet cherries, some raspberry jam tones, a little bit of ripe strawberry, light nuances of exotic spices, oaky hints of toffee and creaminess and a touch of crunchy yellow apple. The mouthfeel is rich and textural, even somewhat mellow, but the rather high acidity still lends good sense of balance, structure and firmness to the wine. The finish is long, rich and juicy with a ripe and quite intense aftertaste of strawberries and fresh black cherries, some peachy tones, a little bit of raspberry jam, light notes of toffee, a hint of exotic spices and a touch of saline minerality.

A fantastic rosé from the big, complex and vinous end of the spectrum. There's a lot of substance here, but the wine still retains great sense of balance as the overall feel is more on the savory side despite the ripeness and the acidity is perfectly adequate for such a big wine. I wouldn't mind if the wine was a bit higher in acidity, but this is quite a stunner all the same. It's built pretty much like a red wine, only the flavor profile is something very much unlike red wine. Although it is obvious that this wine is not young anymore, it really doesn't show any obvious signs of age and I don't see it going south anytime soon. Drink or keep for another 10 years or more. There are very few rosés in the world that can beat Simone in terms of depth, richness and complexity. Not particularly affordable for a rosé at approx. 50€, but easily delivers for the price.

A wonderful wine. Better than a Ch. Simone rouge 2013 three years ago (see TN), which I remember to be rather sombre and unyielding.
Complex on the nose, precise, fresh and inviting with red and dark fruits (cranberries, ripe cherries), typical provencal balsamic notes and some forest floor. In the mouth the wine is still youthful with freshness and lots of finely chiseled tannin. However, it is also nicely accessible. The wine has that old-vines-feel about it with its intense flavours and a rich and strikingly beautiful texture. Very good length.
For me the wine stands out for its combination of a solid structure à la Bordeaux with a provencal taste-profile and - in this vintage - with its natural balance where no hair is out of place. There is no need to score it for its singularity and rarity, this is by all accounts a great red wine and I immediately went out to pick up some bottles of the 2019.

Very rich and creamy wine with good complexity. Tropical, herbal, grapefruit and lingering acidity on the palate. This opened up nicely and became a lot better after 20-30 minutes or so in the glass. I would open this 1-2 hours prior to serving. Overall a wonderful wine, but I sense it has the backbone to become even better in the next 3-5 years.
